Happy Birthday!

Thanks for the report and setlist. Yeah, that's a lot of travel for 10 songs.

Paul is one heck of a nice guy

Great pictures! I especially like the gift-giving portion of the show with the Fleet Foxes. Also, Glenn pulled out all the stops on the RockStar moment in Bend, I see.

Beautiful babies.

They're American Apparel, and I would agree that AA shirts run a bit small. If you go to americanapparel.net, you can look up their sizing guide which seems accurate.

Happy Birthday, etc., etc. Whatever it is that makes you feel gratified, may you experience it in excess today.

Congrats! Here's to a peaceful infancy for you, Mrs. Jules, Jules Jr. I.

I think it's also a reference to this new movie coming out, which rips off Breakfast Club in its promo poster. Pixie sticks on the sandwich? Weak.

You can't make a post that ends with, "Kick Nels Cline out for a start and we might see some results" and then act surprised when people have strong reactions. If you don't like the new stuff Wilco puts out, enjoy their old stuff and move on to a band who does still impress or inspire you. Life's too short, blah, blah, blah.

Happy Birthday! Good luck with the whole "hooking up" thing.

We saw Son Volt, and I didn't find them "atrocious." I've seen them a few times, and I thought Farrar was the most comfortable I've seen him. I was saying to someone else that, while he wasn't smiling, he didn't look as irritated as usual. Also, he interacted with the audience more than during other shows I've seen. The mix at the beginning of their set was awful, but by the third or fourth song it was much better. After I saw them last year, I said I wouldn't go out of my way to see them play solo again because the show was so melancholy. Farrar was a grump, and I ended up sitting down 1

Some nice change-ups in the set list! And I bet the Dylan cover with the Fleet Foxes was great. How was the crowd? It looks like a beautiful venue.
-
Hmmm, I think I do vaguely remember hearing it but at low volume. Their entrance that night seemed to take most people by surprise, with a lot of audience still shuffling into the venue when they took the stage.

Those aren't sweat pants (they're straight-up twill), but that's not to say he wouldn't do it.
-
They didn't do it in Indy, Jackson, or Salt Lake. Did they do it at McCarren, Tanglewood, etc?

Nothing, really. A local band (Dark Cheddar? Something with "cheddar" in it. A WI girl never forgets the use of "cheddar") played, and then there were rumors swirling that the Crowes may show up to perform if they "were up for it." It never happened. It was a great festival: one stage, a natural amphitheater (although they could ratchet the stage up about 5 or 6 more feet to make it better for people farther back), and obviously a beautiful setting. I'm sure there will be a "Second Annual" in 09. [quote name='bb

Wilco - Salt Lake City, Red Butte Gardens 8/18/08
H.Stone replied to H.Stone's topic in After The Show
I'm sure where you sat for this show was crucial to your impression and enjoyment of it. I will hand it to the Red Butte folks: they don't mess around when it comes to getting in line for a big show. I don't know what time the first people in line showed up, but it had to be early in the morning since by 11:30 a.m. there were already about 40 people there. There were certainly people there who simply attend every show because they're garden members, and there were plenty of people who spread out blankets "just in case" some friends needed spots--thus taking up a disproportionate amoun -
As for Kingpin, it went a little like, "Livin' in... Jackson...hole" with "hole" being a bit of a trailer. As a previous poster mentioned, there were many "J-hole" jokes during the night. Early on, Jeff asked the locals what people call them, and someone shouted out, "J-HOLES!" That was all the permission he needed. Kingpin did require some significant training for the J-holes, though. As for Brian Wilson, it was actually quite sad. He had his keyboard in front of him, but he didn't touch it the whole set, and he didn't sing more than 40% of the time. It was definitely a Beach Boys R

Great setlist, really nice crowd, beautiful canyon breezes throughout the show. (Jeff re: Glenn's hair blowing in the breeze: "I feel like Glenn is having a photo shoot and I'm in the way.") Great show in Teton Village. The weather was perfect, especially when the sun went down and the guys could actually see. Seeing Brian Wilson was also a treat. He sold out First Ave? That's great. I'm also seeing him tonight with AA Bondy and couldn't be more excited.
