House of Freaks - Tantilla Used for $0.33! House of Freaks - Cakewalk Used for $0.01!!! Both are dark, gothic folk/pop. And both are hidden gems. The general consensus is that Tantilla is the better record, yet I still prefer Cakewalk, which has a few industrial elements -- odd percussion and the like. Both are outstanding purchases for the price, though! And, Bryan Harvey... R.I.P.

Big fan, but I have not yet heard the album. Guess I should remedy that.

Heard the mono remix of the title track from Sgt. Peppers and it was noticeably different. I mean, it was still the same damn song, but the mono mix was very cool.

I have a page at the site, as well, but this is not to promote my band, but others there that I like. STEVE ISON: BritPop for fans of Martin Newell, Kinks, Robyn Hitchcock. HUGH HAMILTON: One-man band for fans of Beatles, Kinks, Nick Lowe. THE ALEXANDRIA KLEZTET: For fans of Klezmatics, Fiddler On the Roof, and Eastern European music, in general. BOB ELLIOTT: Psychadelic pop music for fans of The Apples In Stereo, poppier side of The Jayhawks. MINK: Glam rock/Power pop for fans of Foo Fighters, The Sweet, Jet. INVISIBLE INC: Classic pop/rock with great harmonies for fans of The Byr

I thought that too. But listen closely to the songs; the lyrics. The guys are pretty sarcastic and even subversive, at times. Intellectually punk.

"Cracker " The band appreciation thread!
PopTodd replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Start with Key Lime Pie and work your way backwards. Those last 2 records are the most like Cracker. But I love the faux-ethnic stuff that they did on Telephone-Free Landslide Victory, Camper Van Bethoven, and Camper Van Beethoven II. Mixed in with the folk/pop kinda thing that they did so well, it made for a really interesting mix. -

Good band. [music snob] I still prefer older Camper. [/music snob] -
And this is the reason why: Seriously, this looks like the best live band out there these days.

Just finished the last Harry Potter book and it's probably my favorite of the series. Definitely the most exciting entry (after a slow beginning to the book). Although I have a hard time seeing how they're gonna do the movie of this one, as a lot of it goes on inside of Harry's head. (And that is not a spoiler, in case any of you who have not read it yet are worried.)

Chilton can be a pretty crappy performer, though, too. Witness Big Star's performance on The Tonight Show back around 1998, or so, as well. Not so good.

I voted "Yes". Not because I think that "Hard Day's Night" is the best Beatles song, but because I think that it can certainly be considered the best song by somebody, without embarrassment. For the record my favorite Beatles song is either: "I'm Only Sleeping" "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" "Hey Bulldog" "Elanor Rigby" or one of about 50 others.

I saw Big Star back in 1995, when they were touring with Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow in place of Andy Hummel and Chris Bell. And, let me tell you , they KILLED! Auer and Stringfellow sang a couple of the Bell-penned tunes and just nailed it. I think that the version they did of "I Am the Cosmos" sent chills up and down the spines of everyone there that night. Also, to see them live, means that you are forced to appreciate what an amazing drummer Jody Stephens really is. The guy is a beast.

In summation: Joking about someone dying is bad. Bitching about somebody joking about somebody dying is bad and hypersensitive. But, everybody does it. Um... both of "it". So, who the hell cares? Oh, and I still have no idea who DJ AM is. -
I bought Third the semester that I transferred to a new school, as a senior. Needless to say, it was tough; I was lonely. I think I played "Nighttime" 10 times every day: "Get me out of here Get me out of here I hate it here Get me out of here..." I found my place at the new school, but the album still reverberates with me. And I don't think that it's purely circumstantial. The record is by no means an easy listen, but when you finally GET it, it's one of the most rewarding listens there is. It's the sound of resignation... of a band falling apart. Of a man falling apart. And it's beautiful

And, did you know what Greg Norton is up to these days? Do you care? FYI, it's this: The Nortons' Restaurant outside of Minneapolis. Still rocking the handlebar!
