  1. I've never heard Reagan's run described as "poor leadership," or lumped in with the mediocre POTUSes from the 70s. Reagan's presidency is generally viewed favorably by historians: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States Early reviews put him no lower than the 3rd quartile, but his reviews have gotten more positive in time, with some putting him in the 1st quartile
  2. Somewhat reluctant Democrat. I like it. I know you're an Iowan, but maybe you could join the Minnesota Dem party: the Democratic Farm and Labor party or the North Dakota Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party.
  3. I don't understand the appeal of an outsider. If all these people are sick of career/lifer politicians, then vote out the Reps and Senators in your own district. I watched parts of the Mark Cuban appearance on the Late Show w/ Colbert. One thing he said which I hadn't noted before is: Where are all of Trump's business partners? None of them are coming forward to extoll his virtues, and that should be very telling.
  4. I'm trying to fathom this. That sounds like my friend who accidentally missed the first of four final exams he had. With a shrug of his shoulders, he said "fuck it" and skipped the other three too.
  5. Good advice on putting on subtitles. Buncha mumblers. I thought the film was merely OK. I could never quite tell WTF was going on, and I wasn't invested enough to care about unwrapping the mystery. I thought Blue Ruin was much better.
  6. Going to rent Green Room tonight. I liked the director's other movie: Blue Ruin, very much.
  7. George Harrison's estate (was it penned by Dhani?) on RNC's use of "Here Comes the Sun" to introduce Ivanka: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/george-harrison-estate-blasts-trumps-song-use-at-rnc-w430423
  8. I heard Eminence Front in between RNC speakers a couple nights ago. WOW I thought. People forget, indeed. It's a put on.
  9. I enjoyed this. My parents also had their mandated/default Sgt. Pepper's LP. That and the White Album. Both of which surprise me now, since most of their other albums were Harry Belafonte, Simon & Garfunkel, Kingston Trio, and Nana Mouskouri. The two Beatles albums they had were the only pop/rock albums in their collection. The White Album is my favorite album to this day. I listened to it so so so much on my little crappy portable LP player when I was a kid. Those songs always seemed to me to come from some deeper place than anything else I was exposed to. I "do the Beatles" for my b
  10. From what I can remember, the original Hollywood bowl LP sounded just like how George Martin described - like a jet engine of screaming girls with the Beatles in the background.
  11. I enjoyed this article. Is this the best we can do?
  12. Better than plagiarizing Rick Astley? http://www.vox.com/2016/7/19/12221654/melania-trump-rickroll

  15. Good album - thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'm hoping to check out his show at the Empty Bottle Saturday night after a long day at Pitchfork.
  16. She already (mostly) adopted his plan/promise for providing State College education for free.
  17. posted this in a baseball thread: required reading: http://www.chicagoma...ght-Disco-Died/ amazing photos here: http://www.dawhiteph...isco-demolition
  18. I was able to buy 3 shows, and have sold 2 of them - amounting to about $110. Not bad at all. Still waiting for the demand to build for Demi Lovato/Joe Jonas!! C'mon rich parents of whiny kiddos!
  19. That's a good guess, but I really don't think so. My very limited memory of the flick was that it centered around kids. And I'm also guessing this movie was from the early 70s/late 60s. I think I remember the kids wearing red or blue shirts (as if they were teams) and sunglasses. Makes me think I'm just talking about Star Trek episodes...
  20. How was the show Calvino? I checked out the set list. Looked nice.
  21. Wow - lucidity from Newt: http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2016/07/08/newt-gingrich-white-americans-dont-understand-being-black-in-america/
