  1. Thanks, Donna. You're exactly right. With every passing day there's something else I wish I could share with him. Even small things like the scores of ballgames. I did go to a minor league baseball game one night last week and sat next to an empty seat (imagining him sitting there next to me throughout the game). I promise I'm not crazy. It was just comforting to imagine him sitting there by me. And I find myself having conversations with him still, especially when I'm alone in the car. I did watch! And they've been in first place in the NL East for most of the season! That's definitely so
  2. Thank you. I did exactly those things. And I wanted to do something for someone to commemorate the date. So I visited a 92-year-old World War II veteran who, along with his wife, were like a second father or grandfather and mother or grandmother to me when I was little. His wife kept me during the day while my parents worked. His health isn't good, and his wife has to spend most of the time at home caring for him. She had mentioned to my mom that she wished she could get out and enjoy a hot doughnut with coffee. So I brought them a dozen freshly made doughnuts and spent some time visiting them
  3. Today is the first Father's Day since I lost my dad.
  4. I love me some John Coltrane. There's a pretty good documentary on him, "Chasing Trane," that came out a couple of years ago. Can't wait to hear the recently discovered stuff.
  5. Saw "RBG" last night. Very good documentary.
  6. It's good stuff, but it didn't grab me as quickly as "Sometimes I Sit and Think..."
  7. Today started in the ER, this time with my mother. Yesterday she had surgery she's needed on her foot over the last four years because she had to care for my dad. There were some complications, so we spent the entire day at the hospital. I brought her home around dinner time last night. Unfortunately the prescription the surgeon gave her for pain had little to no effect. She tried to tough it out, but she suffered greatly. By 3 a.m. this morning she couldn't tolerate it anymore, so we called the surgeon, who quickly dispatched us to the ER. The ER doc gave her morphine, but she still couldn't
  8. I'm hoping Jeff's memoir will be released some time this year. Not sure if that's the plan, but I've been excited about it since it was announced.
  9. I have HBO now for the month, so I watched "Sweet Dreams," a movie about Patsy Cline starring Jessica Lange. Meh. Also watched "The Zookeeper's Wife," based on a true story from World War II with which I was totally unfamiliar. I really enjoyed this one.
  10. Not saying they're the best but my favorite three (which date my fandom and me a little) are "Box Full of Letters" (first Wilco song I ever heard), "Outtasite (Outta Mind)", and "California Stars."
  11. So the Mets apparently batted out of order in the first inning today. How does that happen?
  12. Watched "May It Last," the documentary by Judd Apatow on the Avett Brothers. I'm not as big of a fan of them as I was 10 years ago, but the film is very enjoyable and well-done.
