  1. The new Spoon record, "Hot Thoughts." Good stuff as always from them.
  2. What a night. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band kicked things off with a set of their own that lasted about 45-50 minutes. Really good stuff, including what I presume to be some new material with a Latin sound. I read that the band traveled to Cuba last year and that their next album will be influenced by that trip. After about a 15-minute break Neko and her band (including Kelly Hogan) hit the stage. Neko played some songs from her more country-sounding days as well as plenty of newer stuff. I'm hoping a setlist will be published online, but I remember she played "I Wish I Was The Moon," "Ma
  3. Neko Case with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Preservation Hall in NOLA. This could be special.
  4. New album, "In Spades," on May 5. Also a video for new song "Demon in Profile" and European tour dates. http://pitchfork.com/news/71759-the-afghan-whigs-announce-new-album-in-spades-share-video-for-new-track-watch/
  5. "Shake Em On Down," a great documentary on bluesman Mississippi Fred McDowell. It's currently streaming on PBS's website. Well worth 60 minutes of your time. http://www.pbs.org/video/2365929363/
  6. That's a sweet deal for two of my favorite bands. If I was anywhere near Denver I'd be all over that like stink on a monkey!
  7. If you're a fan of Fess, check out this album that was released last year. It's a live performance from Chicago: http://www.offbeat.com/music/professor-longhair-live-chicago-orleans-records/
  8. I don't know much about them. In fact, I learned about them through VC. I do like both versions of In Between. Good listening for an early spring afternoon.
  9. Just want to say to all who are fortunate enough to be attending that I hope y'all have a blast. I'll be there with you in spirit.
  10. I tried to whittle it down last night, and this year it's tough to do. They're all very good movies. If I had to pick the one that impacted me the most emotionally, I'd pick "Hacksaw Ridge." As for my favorite among them, I don't think I have one. There really wasn't one that stood out as being better than the rest. I could probably pick three or four that I'd most like to see again: "Arrival," Hell or High Water," "Hidden Figures" and "Hacksaw Ridge." Maybe that's a testament to the quality of this year's nominees. If I was a betting man my money would be on "Moonlight" because of its story
  11. Just watched "Manchester by the Sea." Very long but very good film. Now I've seen all of this year's best picture nominees.
  12. He didn't even bother to address the Russian military provocations: the spy ship off the East Coast, the buzzing of our naval ship by two Russian fighters, the violation of the Cold War era treaty. In fact he stated he doesn't believe Putin is trying to test him. It's beyond unnerving at this point. This is the stuff that makes rational people lose sleep at night.
  13. I, too, grew up in the 1980s. Remember the USFL? There's a good ESPN "30 for 30" documentary on the league's history, including the downfall which was largely precipitated by Trump. He has a lengthy history of ruining things. Most narcissists do.
  14. I was just glad to have a chance to see the band with Olson live. One of those bucket list items I was able to check off. Agreed on the lackluster reunion album.
