I don't disagree with you, and that is why I personally wouldn't make this an issue or focus on my band's (not that I have one) "music" DVD. That is why I hate when movie stars or rock musicians start preaching. We all are part of the problem and all of us have our hands dirty to an extent, so don't start acting like you are the light shining from above and have some great insight into it when you or your record label is part of the machine. It is short sided and unnecessary. Like I said, I have made a personal decision in my life to try to avoid Wal Mart and am about 98% successful, but I

I'll admit the music direct posting looks pretty legit. They state an actual release date and summary on the product etc etc. It is odd that Wilco HQ hasn't said a word, specifically since they are promoting the April 18th DVD which is the same date music direct gives for the vinyl re releases. My assumption is, that if you buy the DVD you get all the vinyl re releases for free and therefore they are trying to keep that hush hush.

When I first started collecting vinyl about 10 years ago, I really got into Badfinger. One of those bands that we all know a few songs, but don't realize that we should have known so much more. Their second album, it is self titled right? Is unbelievable. Anyway. Sad story.

how did you come up with this? bootleg? compiled yourself? don't be like this!

Well, as I guess was the inspiration for the OP, but I'll say it again. Wilco releasing their enitre catalouge on vinyl seems to be the biggest no brainer known to man. If it doesn't happen it will be #10956 of why I don't understand buisness, especially the music buisness.

who/what mentioned bonus material?

2/24/09 Another Archives supposed release date has come and gone. I think he is just pissing people off at this point. It is like being a Cubs fan. Am I even going to be alive when this thing happens?

For me, I do notice the difference in sound at times when listening to vinyl vs. CD, but don't consider myself a huge wiz on the subject. The experience and attention required and size of album art relating to vinyl makes it a more pleasant experience. The idea of sitting in a chair, putting down that needles, staring at the album art and not being able to skip over or pause the damn thing is really cool, even if the sound quality isn't perfect.

Further more, can you go and purchase every Wilco record and likely this DVD at places like Best Buy, crappy music stores inside the Mall, Barnes and Noble etc etc etc. I guess that is my point, if you are going to make a commentary on this type of thing, be prepared to put your money where your mouth is. You know, if you hate foreign oil, are you driving a SUV? If so......................hypocritical. Now if you are living what you are preaching (and you preach to the masses from your pearch as a rock musician) then you are not a hypocrite but you are annoying me in my book. I sound l

I'm a little concerned about this whole small buisness vs. corporate goliath thing as it relates to the DVD. Wilco has recently walked a fine line between being an intellectual rock band and self important rock band. This is starting to smell like U2 territory. Not that I don't support the idea, in fact I have pretty much banned Wal Mart in my personal life for example. I also think Farm Aid (the principle behind it) is worthy and I liked when Wilco quitely did that gig, even though Neil Young himself admits that it has less than worthy results. I just don't like this sort of thing becomi

Mandy Moore? Ooops, I feel bad Ryan Adams karma about to strike me down. Don't cancel thurs Cardinals show in Columbia Mo, Don't do it Ryan. I've been looking forward to this for 4 freaking months!

I think we have all agreed on one thing. Whoever European fashion pro is giving these boys tips needs to stop and we all need to send them some boot cut jeans and flannels. And who know, maybe they will make another Aha Shake in the process.

Ok to further complicate this issue. (This being the Wilco board and all). Back when I was around you alls age I remember a band named Wilco (not comparing KOL to Wilco) pissing off people for supposedly selling out. And if you read No Depression magazine, Wilco playing rock music or using keyboards was selling out. Trust Me. You know, Jay Farrar was sticking to his roots while Wilco was running around money grabbing with these new crazy sounds. I'm just saying, bands do what they do and we place all this crap meaning on it. First of all, very few bands do not want to become known on som

I don't know who this John Smith is, the name sounds familiar. But I can say that his Yoda avatar says it all. He is a truth speaker and a man of infinite wisdom. And he is from Central Illinois and coming from there myself, I know the quality of his environment. Here is to you John Smith.

This may be the oddest post in a long while on this board?
-
This I think sums it up. Thank you John Smith. I believe it is perception. They were cool till the cool kids starting paying attention which immediately makes them uncool, but they haven't really changed. I for one will say the vocals have definetly improved, but they lost a little of the sweet groove along the way.

I get it. Luckily now in my life I don't listen to radio and I have no friends, but I get where you are coming from. It reminds me of college and friends of mine jumping on a bands wagon the minute they got radio play and not giving a crap until that happened. It made me dislike bands just on that principle. To this day I'm apprehensive about Radiohead's OK Computer because my roomates who were musical idiots bought that album because of the hype. Not a great example, I should have mentioned Creed or Tonic or Sister Hazel but you get my point.

Bad week for Patterson Hood 1. Come down with walking Pnuemonia 2. Have to sit out opening nights of tour 3. Find out you are expendable

not in Columbia either Now don't be alarmed, but can anyone you went to the show with confirm the appearance of this women? -
No, I didn't mean to have the read that I think the Black Crowed are mindless. Far from it. And as far as KOL being mindless, I guess I mean chicks and drugs mindless. As far as MMJ and KOL they to me are so far different and I consider MMJ as more indie rock experimental than straight forward. Don't apologize for evil urges (i know you kid) but that record has a groove like no other.

ACL was great. And maybe that got me fired up, but I just started thinking about how few bands are out there making quick 2:30 minute catchy ass songs that are not completely mindless and mainstream but close enougth be mindless that makes it about as rock and roll as it gets. Maybe I'm hearing it wrong, but there are not enough straight forward rock bands like KOL the black keys, the black crowes.
-
Ok, I don't know why I'm defending KOL because in the grand scheme of music they are probably #573 on my list of favorite bands, but for what they do I really enjoy them as I stated earlier. After reading the replys, except the comparsion to Nickleback (which made me feel weird for everyone involved) I think the problem, beside the Evan Dando Effect, is that people are believing crap they read in rock magazine. Are we living in the Followils brains? Even though they have discussed the Europe vs. US thing in interviews are we sure that is what is driving their motives. I agree with earlier

Maybe And I'll agree that Because of the Times is their least consistent, but their most recent sounds to me like they have just finely tuned what they had going on. It isn't as raw as the first two, but I can't deny the quality of the songs. Not that it is on the same level and not that I'm a Metallica fan, but just because the black album sold a ton of copies and people like me who would never listen to Metalica at least paid some attention doesn't mean that the music is pedestrian or appealling to the lowest common denominator. It may be that the band just finally put it together. The w

Same issue in Columbia, Marc's guitar and mic were both louder. Not terribly so, but enough for me to notice his sloppy guitar playing. Seriously though, this was a small quibble. They were on and put a nice evening of solid tunes. -
Well, I watched Kings of Leon on Austin City Limits on Saturday night and I've officially decided that I really like this band. (At least I like this band for what they are). Mindless, catchy rock that is of course not complete bubble gum for the masses. Anyway, I hear on this board a mix between likers and haters and I fear that KOL may be victims of the Evan Dando Effect. That is when guys decide they don't like someones music because their girlfriends think the musician is way more hotter than said guy will ever be. I'm a 31 year old balding man with decent looks, but I'm married with
