I enjoyed that: "Jesus, Etc." was a blessing despite having to operate without that sublime Al-Green-goes-Celtic string arrangement. If a film-choad like the talentless Cameron Crowe tries to taint that dreamy song by dropping it into Vanilla Sky II or some such turd, I may have to personally impale him on his Oscar from the sports-agent-with-a-tender-boner movie.

Since I switched jobs within the same company I have not had time to do much. Or should I say I have not taken the time to do much. I actually have 270 hours of vacation time built up which I'm not at all proud of. So much for work life balance. But I did get to 620 points on Turntable.fm this summer so all was not lost. And eked out 3 gigs with the band. But I really need to go somewhere and do something.

Kind of amazed how focused and concise the songs are on here.

Malkmus/Jicks - Mirror Traffic - NPR First Listen
Moss replied to parisisstale's topic in Someone Else's Song
I ordered this on Amazon already, Malkmus is one of those people I will buy without hearing first. But the heck with waiting for the CD, I'm going to stream this asap. -
Thought this belonged in a Beatles thread:

Looks like Neko and MMJ teamed up for a duet of "Islands in the stream" (you can watch it on pitchfork), unfortunately I can't watch it hear at work. Not my fave song but I would love to see them do it. I would have loved for Neko to open when I saw them last week, Amos Lee was a snoozer for me.

Free Cracker and G. Love and special sauce shows tonight in FT. Collins, outdoor stage at "New west fest".

Just started season 1 and I'm hooked. I don't dare venture into the Breaking Bad thread for fear of spoilers.

My fave Sabbath just released on 180g Vinyl, remastered with all orignial packaging duplicated. From all accounts this was their personal "white" album if you know what I mean. $21 on amazon

It's certainly short. Only 2x through it but I do like it. I have certainly listened to these guys before but not a ton. I have a hard time with all the horns. This feels like a grower though so I need to listen a few more times. Don't think it will be at the top of my best of list but not sure it ever had a chance really.

Thenewno2 is Dhani's new band. It's kind of funny that the kids are both older than their dads were when they were in the Beatles.

Wow, this is a thick, sludgy metal album. Never listened to these guys before but I'm liking it (band is called YOB). I'm sure Tinnitus has seen them at some point. Streaming at NPR: http://www.npr.org/2...listen-yob-atma

45 years ago today (or close enough) this little gem dropped on an unsuspecting public. Listening to it right now.

I liked the new Franzen better than the corrections but I liked both of them. The characters are kind of the same in both books, none of them come across as very likeable. But he does have a way with words at times. And of course there is the whole Jeff Tweedy shout out in the new one.

That sounds like something I would do. Why I care if some stranger likes Wilco is beyond me, but I do.

Nice! And you don't have to pay to see them with Kings of Leon now! So I know this is not the place for a review but something happened at the My Morning jacket show last night that I had never seen. During one of the songs (I forget which one) there was suddenly a very loud and very dissident guitar sound overpowering the band. It was the unmistakeable sound of someone tuning a guitar. It went on an awful long time before I saw someone run over to the Roadie (that was at the side of the stage with a guitar in his hands) and frantically motion to him. I don't know how he didn't notice b

Meh, his show, his rules. Why not? It's something he feels strongly about. Maybe he doesn't like to smell Bacon sizzling when he is doing his show. Covering signs may be a bit over the top but maybe it's distracting when he is up there. Ok, I'm a Sir aPaulogist (but not a vegetarian). -
I hate the new album and love In Rainbows so I'm not sure I agree with the samey comment. Those albums seem very different to me. They continue to change and evolve. I admire any band that puts art over popularity. I have no doubt Radiohead could craft an album that would be hugely popular, that's not what interests them.

My morning jacket tonight at Red Rocks with Amos Lee opening. Got an extra ticket to sell in fact. My first Jacket show!

Ok, I'm not really listening to this yet, but I can't wait.
