AP: All Trapped Miners Rescued in S.Africa
-
Donna, I'm reading this: Triangle: The Fire That Changed America but there's also a fictionalized account that I'm interested in reading: Triangle: A Novel. Dunja, I haven't read that, but large fires fascinate and terrify me. The story that always breaks my heart is the General Slocum fire. It was basically a church picnic, 1300 people from one immigrant neighborhood in New York on a boat on a Sunday afternoon. Between the fire and drowning deaths, over 1,000 people died, wiping out much of the church community. I think that's what bothers me most about these mine disasters. No

Wow, that's heartbreaking. I'm reading a book about the Triangle fire, and as horrifying as it is to picture those poor women trapped in that building, at least their pain was over fairly quickly. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be in a situation where it wasn't readily apparent when, or if, you might be rescued. Thousand of vibes for these miners.

Yay! Take it all over there, please.

Every time I see this thead title, I think it says Herpes Season 2.

I've never seen a baby that wasn't mesmerized by ceiling fans. Just fill your whole house with them! Yeah, I suppose "everything in moderation" applies to baby toys/restraint devices, too. I think you're right about the extra-developed leg muscles though, my sister's kids are all little soccer stars.

There was a thing on the news here last week about babies arching their backs and falling out of these things. Only put it on the floor, never on a table or other raised surface! When my sister's babies were in their Johnny Jump-Up, we used to sing this song to them. There's your musical tie-in. (For extra fun: cider in the baby's bottle!) Also, the kids are bigger now, but they still sleep with their knotty dolls. Not the least bit musical, but babies love them.

A friend of mine has a six year old who loves Curious George. I wanted the dad to be the man in the yellow hat, with the kid in a monkey suit!

Much love to Patti and all the family.

Go Kate! True story: I find my voice shakes less when I'm angry. So don't let yourself be tense, or self-conscious, or even think about the speaking part of it. Concentrate on the issue and how you want to kick its ass!

I vote that this song be played in Iowa City.

Love you, Nat! Happy day!

I saw a Wal Mart commercial the other night that had a song (instrumental) I knew and like in it, and it drove me crazy. I finally figured it out, it's Cabezon by Red House Painters.

We take great civic pride in that piece of crap art.

She's a cutie, and she's got my favorite pic-with-Jeff ever. Artificial nipples are for suckas!

I felt that way about his Jazz series, that some stuff I wanted to know more about was given short shrift, and then he seemed to dwell forever on other topics. I guess that's his perogative as a documentarian, he gets to make those decisions, and he's never going to make everyone happy. Here's my family's WWII/TV documentary story: my grandmother's only brother (there were 6 girls and just the one boy in the family) was killed in Holland in 1944, and my grandmother always said that she didn't really know the circumstances of his death. A few years ago, I guess it was for the 60th annivers

Wait until next year. It's not a DVD yet, is it?

I'm still amazed she was so young when she wrote this. September 23, 2007

There's sort of a policy about waiting for a week before requesting recordings. Keep an eye out in the Greatest Lost Track forum for announcements from tapers when they've got the show ready to distribute, or keep up with the thread for the show, in After the Show, lots of times the info will be posted there, too.

As a person who has only minimal interest in baseball or jazz, but enjoyed Ken Burns' take on both of those, I'm also looking forward to it. I can't keep up with the schedule, though. After the initial showing here, they're going to do them on a once-a-week basis, so I'm probably going to do it that way.

Holy shit! The whole first episode of season 2 is on there, complete with a little summary which totally gives away spoiler-y stuff! (After clicking the Texas Stadium thing, click on the little blue box next to the volume control, and it'll pop open another window with some more clips.) Oh, and I would totally buy that t-shirt. That, and a Crucifictorius t-shirt, if you can set that up, too. Edit: http://tv.yahoo.com/friday-night-lights/sh...vHtRijP9LTTv9EF That's a much better way to get to those. Seriously, though. Spoilers!

Yep, check out the reports in the After the Show thread.
