He's definitely got a reputation as a nice guy. My cousin's husband is a cameraman at most of the home games, so when the family is there, sometimes they'll get shown in a crowd shot. And during a slow spot in the game, Krukow has actually commented on-air "those are cameraman Marty's kids, she's a senior, he's a sophomore, and they both run track...", that kind of thing. Way above and beyond what I'd expect an announcer to remember about a cameraman's kids. Several years ago, we took my nieces to a Wilco show, and they got to meet all the band members out by the buses after. Ro was a

When Ted Kennedy was running for the Democratic nomination in 1980, I was one of the kids on stage with him during his appearance at the Irish Cultural Center. I believe there was a presentation of flowers or something.

I worked in a comedy club when I was in college. Off the top of my head, most famous comics I met were Bob Goldthwait (famous at the time) and Denis Leary (not so much, he was only a middle act at the time).

Happy day, Judy!

I will be taking this opportunity to correct the current situation in my house, wherein every clock is either 5 minutes slow or 5 minutes fast. So right now, it's 10 minutes earlier in the kitchen than it is in the living room.

Betty White To Host SNL Mother's Day Weekend
gogo replied to u2roolz's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I don't watch Kathy Griffin's show The D List regularly, but I happened to catch an episode (or maybe it was two in a row) last year where she asked her mother who she'd like to meet. The premise was that Kathy could use her quasi-celebrity to arrange these meetings. Her mother chose Don Rickles and Betty White, and they were both fantastic, and fantastically gracious. -
I didn't think I'd be able to get past Courtney Cox bemoaning how old and unattractive she is(!), but after the first few episodes, that's not really much of a thing anymore. I enjoy Cougar Town. But I love Modern Family. Last week's episode, when the pediatrician came to brunch... And I think that's an interesting theory about Jerry Seinfeld as a possible Leno replacement, if/when Leno tanks. I haven't seen the Marriage Ref, so I can't comment on his "hosting" abilities. But he's definitely another comic in the Leno mold (though I always thought he was much funnier than Leno), even

I thought the Jordan Catalano/Brian Krakow one sounded good, but yeah, that last one. Yay! They're sending me a copy from the University of Nevada, Reno. There isn't a single available copy of this book anywhere in California?

Alison's posts always send me straight to my library's on-line catalogue. They don't have this one, but I've requested it through inter-library loan. How could I resist these chapter titles?

That's weird, because I was definitely able to pull some up when I tried earlier (see my incredibly snarky post, above). Either they just sold out in the past hour, or there's some other reason why they're not currently available. I'd trying checking back later, because that seems wrong.

belleboy, do you realize that the whole point of this thread is that tickets are available? http://www.ticketmaster.com/Jeff-Tweedy-tickets/artist/806156?tm_link=edp_Artist_Name So you can still buy them through Ticketmaster, or as someone mentioned above, try the Vic box office. Also, I think you've been around here long enough to know that there's a subforum specifically for buying/selling/trading tickets: http://forums.viachicago.org/forum/26-how-to-fight-loneliness/ Please post any requests for tickets in that forum.

My niece and two of her friends did I'm Always in Love (on tin whistle, cello, and drums) for their school talent show a few years ago. I'll have to try to dig out the tape of that. There were a couple of covers CDs put out several years ago (there's also still a subforum down below, for the Tribute CDs). There was talk of a third, as well as a non-Wilco Tweedy tribute, but the folks who were the driving forces behind that have lives outside of VC, and it's hard to get a thing like that put together. I'm sure that if anyone wants to take over the organizing for another one, kidsmoke w

I realize that the bulk of the Olympics talk is probably over, but hows about one of you starts a poker thread, rather than taking this any further in this thread? That's not a moderator request so much as a personal request, since I've got exactly zero interest in reading poker talk, but I keep getting excited when it looks like there's more Olympics talk going on in here. (Although, as a moderator, I can move the poker posts into a new thread to start that off, if you'd like.) Thanks!

I love this! I also think it's pretty hilarious that whoever took this has the same problem I do: even though it appears that he used a tripod, the shot still manages to be several degrees off level.

Ha! Actually, no. My recollections of this are pretty hazy, but I seem to recall some actual disco dancing involving ropes on the old series. Pretty sure no one had sex on that one.
-
Do they do the Rope Dance on the new series?

What a great day for you, and for the whole country. Except for that other 20%... what the hell were they doing that day?!? Also: This sounds like a party at our house.

I'd love to see complete "gavel-to-gavel" DVDs available. For as long as the Olympics have been broadcast, and as cheap as DVDs are to produce now, why not package up DVDs for everything that's available? I know different networks own the footage (NBC has a few available), but I can't believe these wouldn't be worth it to put together. Or make special-interest versions with just track and field, or all of the boxing, or a specific figure skaters' programs and interview segments from every Olympics she competed in, or whatever. I know there are people who would buy those.

Owned and operated by a card-carrying VCer, of course.

Can't wait to hear the full report from Dreamin'. She was at both gold medal hockey games, and the closing ceremonies.

When I'm the one who's been offended, nothing pisses me off more. But in this case, yeah. Totally appropriate.

At Whistler, beer and red wine were available, in plastic cups. At Cypress, they had the same plastic cups of red wine, and Molson in cans. I stuck with the hot chocolate. I saw more than one half-frozen, half-drunk spectator spill a full cup of red wine on a white parka. What is it with the amazing magnetic attraction between red foods and white clothes? Or were they just adding a little color to support the home team?
