  1. i would give that an 8% chance, given current conditions and general awareness...
  2. I saw Destroyer last night and goddamn where they great. Dan's got a very good and interesting band behind him. I was kind of annoyed by the bass player (and his last-minute solo opening set didn't help things to start off with; too precious and kinda boring, but then again it was impromptu because tour mates Nap Eyes got detained coming back in from Canada) but he could certainly play bass well. The drummer was fantastic as well, really energetic but not over-playing. The guitar had a killer tone and blended really well with the trumpet player. There was a keyboard, and then another guy who t
  3. what a great record! i found my copy in some Swedish store in 2004 or so. this should get a proper reissue.
  4. i don't see it as a conspiracy, i see it as the moderate DNC getting their guy to be the front-runner, and the timing of Buttigieg and Klobuchar's suspension of their candidacy, 24-48 hr before Super Tuesday, helped Biden immeasurably. Had Warren done the same, it would have helped Sanders but not to same extent.
  5. super delegates are just another way for the DNC to corral and hold power.... the Repubs don't use this, they use delegates chosen by the popular vote. That's the source of Bernie's frustration and I agree with him.
  6. Aside from the one hit that Mazzy Star managed, most people don't know much about his work. The Rain Parade and esp Opal were as good if not better (Opal also featured Kendra Smith from The Dream Syndicate). Rainy Day is also a worthwhile record/one-off project.
  7. i have gotten unsolicited mail from Bloomberg three days in a row now.
  8. you could ask the same thing about gun control. it's more about starting to change the direction than pull a 180 just as you take the steering wheel.
  9. yep. i can't imagine the self-hubris to be pissed off enough not to vote regardless of who is on the Dem ticket.
  10. i would be fine w/ a Warren/Sanders ticket too. also, here's my solution to cleaning up the debate format: All candidates would receive a mild electric shock whenever they interrupt whomever is speaking. Once they get 5 shocks, the voltage steps up.
  11. WRP are you going to the local show here on the 22nd?
  12. i think the last season i saw was right before the one that focused entirely on the prison riot. seemed like it had lost a lot and wasn't a big draw anymore (but when it was good, it was really good... some of those characters were so excellent).
  13. i had no idea Reverb sold records too. yeah, dealing w/ anal-retentive people who argue over record grading can be a hair-pulling experience, and it's probably best to be really conservative in rating them.
  14. a friend told me that Drag City isn't part of the RIAA so their artists are under no consideration. i mean, in the grand scheme of things a tiny percentage of people who watched the Grammys would know who DCB was, but to a lot of people who did, he was more important than Neil Peart to them (myself included and I like Rush).
  15. 2010 i believe, Gary. Thanks! I would love to be able to add to your office's decor once again!
  16. I thought Tyler was great. I actually enjoyed the Lil Nas X bit too. Prince died nearly three years ago; they hadn't already done a tribute to him?
  17. without airfare, it was roughly 2K, maybe a tad over... it's certainly not cheap. and thanks all for the kind words about my work. I def put a lot of effort into it for very little monetary return (but that's not why i do it) and it's nice to hear such lovely feedback.
  18. it would have been awesome for Yo La Tengo to join Kamasi for an encore full of Sun Ra songs.
  19. Thanks! that is one of the conundrums about photos... the camera's resolutions are getting so much larger but the vast majority of the images are viewed via a phone screen... when i am editing them on my 4K 27" monitor, it's a very different experience than looking at them via my iphone (and sometimes glaring focus or noise issues magically disappear when viewing via the phone!).
  20. tbh they ended up being better than i expected; i recall listening to one of their early records a fair bit back in the day and caught a couple of songs at Newport Folk a few years ago, but they were at (at least imo) a distinct disadvantage for having to follow Kamasi's set, which was stunning. I did end up seeing most of the Dr Dog set.
  21. excellent write up. is Matrix the guy w/ the glasses and beard who has a bandana on his head a lot?
  22. i really wanted to see Led Zeppelin 2 when we landed on Thursday but NFW. enjoy the show!
