  1. it's a bit weird that my favorite thing of his was his vocals on a This Kind Of Punishment lp ("The Sleepwalker" from _A Beard Of Bees_)
  2. good call on headless chickens. leader Chris Matthews released a damn fine cd a few years ago http://www.discogs.com/Chris-Matthews-Robot-Monkey-Orchestra-The-Map-Of-Love/release/1528678
  3. the thing about tJL, even w/ the noise rock tag, is that they had arguably among the best in music at each of the respective roles... macneilly - monster drummer denison - wildly inventive, could bring all full rawk or play spidery, complex runs sims - played the bass like wrestling a python yow - what more could you ask of a front man?
  4. it's not on youtube, but The Delgados' cover of GBV's "Indian Fables" is a very cool cover.
  5. off the top of my head (faves or bands I've seen): Cardinal Pelican Dodos black blood of the owl swans ducktails barn owl crow (great Australian band of the late 80s/early 90s) Blackbird (the Kinman brothers, post-Rank and File and ex-Dils)
  6. not all birds can fly. plenty of things can fly that are not birds.
  7. that was taken @ ATP...they were doing a vid for Pitchfork TV...melvins and no age did sessions as well.
  8. how about Black Elk? i voted Deerhunter, easily the best of the 3. i've not seen Deer Tick, have seen Deerhoof twice. once from their hotel room window.
  9. Echo and the Bunnymen, playing both _Crocodiles_ and _Heaven Up Here_. the 1st three songs of HuH are unstoppable. i wonder if they'll play the US or UK version of the debut record (ie, will the single "Do It Clean" get played?).
  10. i wish i could find that youtube clip of the Japanese band playing DBT's "Tornadoes"
  11. nothing that far from the original (with the violin substituting for Alan Bishop's piercing vocals), but i'm just impressed that someone covered Sun City Girls

  13. that Benes reference is frightening accurate. love this comment: "with all due respect, this is musical territory she did not need to invade..."
  14. or even an older one. like this one
  15. my brother's older than me by 4 years, and he was definitely instrumental in shaping some of my musical tastes (esp Blue Oyster Cult). he was also a huge Smiths and Echo/Bunnymen fan back in the 80s, but has generally lost touch w/ any sort of new music since then.
  16. don't squat too long and risk a prolapsed rectum.
  17. what percentage of currently existing bands (ie, ones that aren't dinosaur acts and that tour on records they released decades ago) can do this?
  18. i'd say that by most definitions, even loose ones, that Wilco are a *very* successful band.
