  1. my sentiments exactly. they need someone who's not afraid to boss them around. great band name
  2. yeah, I know. but that don't mean i think it's ok.
  3. Personally, I have no idea what kind of songs Jeff is writing these days. If you do, well then, help us out with some inside info. I think if Nels and Glen had their experimental leashes let out a bit, Lanois could yield some interesting results. Ditto if they go more of a folk/country route. If it's to be an abrasive rocker of a record I agree he might not fit the bill. The guy from Califone (what's he called again?) might wrangle something cool out of them. George Martin is still alive. I'd rather see T-Bone Burnett do it than Jeff Lynne. All that said, they're doing it at their
  4. I like it except for the second track, which is too REMiniscent of "Talk About the Passion" or some other early REM.
  5. I want Daniel Lanois to produce a Wilco record. But Pollard would be cool too.
  6. I'm a huge Vu fan, but sorry, there's too much poop on White Light/White Heat for it to qualify. The Feelies come to mind but I'm not sure they were ever really great- consistently good undoubtedly, but I'm not convinced they managed to break through the glass ceiling.
  7. Your fallacy is in equating atheism and science. There are are atheists who are not people of science. More importantly, there are scientists who are people of faith.
  8. I've been eyeballing Eastwood for a while but I've read varying reports about quality control. They are eye-candy, to be sure, and the prices are generally reasonable. Please let us know how that Sidejack treats you.
  9. I think that with both Christianity and Atheism it is the vocal minority which talks the loudest and asks the bossiest. In the case of the Christians, it's the right-wing fundamentalists, and in the case of the atheists, it's the left-wing intellectuals. The two seems to have little in common, but I actually think that there is something they share: dogmatism. Unfortunately, they're the ones who control the debate, as most most people who are more towards the "center" can't be bothered to participate. Incidentally, I'm a left-wing hopeful doubter.
  10. Avandia is a drug produced by GalaxoSmithKline. It was approved in 1999 to treat diabetes. In 2007 they looked at some statistics and realized that close to 50% of people taking it suffered from heart attacks. There is (according to some things I've read) about 6 Billion dollars in pending lawsuits. This drug is still on the market. Not trying to pick an old fight here, but when I heard about this I remembered this thread.
  11. That nut is pretty high, yeah. It does effect playability but I've had no intonation problems. And as I've never tried it with a bone-nut, I'll have to take your word for it.
  12. Welcome! I have a Dano 6-string reissue and have trouble with intonation using the stock nut. I thought that that selfsame piece actually had a lot to do with the unique sound (along with the lipstick pickups and the masonite of course) but I could be wrong.
  13. It wouldn't be fair if Paul wasn't on page one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_4E5LTSsvg
  14. Though getting better, the Polish music scene is pretty underdeveloped. The exception to this is the metal scene, which I can't tell you much about because it's not my cup of tea. However, the names I see on posters are quite entertaining: Anal Stench ArchGoat and my personal favorite: Virgin Snatch
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYGOzqufAAU What about when democracy itself is at stake? Are the activists/rioters here guilty of "douchebaggery?"
  16. Education can be made to be universally available at a cost of zero. It is being done. I see this as a good thing, far better than having education available to a small, rich elite. The fact that a government has to take a difficult decision in the direction of the latter is unfortunate. The fact that you seem to be saying they should be running in that direction as fast as they can is, in my humble opinion, the most absurd thing about this discussion.
  17. No, that would make way too much sense. And judging by the state of things there, not really help my case in this forum about the sustainability on it all. Apparently not in England. I think in most continental countries, though, it's still free. I could be wrong about this.
