  1. Becky Stark & Lavender Diamond. The band only has one EP, but she also has a very hard to find home-made album. only one track on myspace, but it's very good indeed
  2. AM - Dash 7 / Its Just That Simple BT - Red-eyed & Blue / Hotel Arizona ST - Summerteeth / We're Just Friends M1 - The Unwelcome Guest / Christ for President M2 - Someday Some Morning Sometime / Secret of the Sea YHF - Jesus Etc / Reservations (although I do love it live, and I far from dislike it here) AGIB - Company In My Back / Handshake Drugs
  3. Looks like a nice set list. I've seen him three time (I think, might actually be 4), but not since he released Love Is Hell, so it might be time to see him next time he's over, because The Cardinals look like a great band to go and see.
  4. Will Oldham Gillian Welch Jeff Tweedy Gruff Rhys ( I am not sure if I should really say the whole band, but I'll stick with him for the sake of the thread) Kurt Wagner Tom Waits (although I actually prefer his pre 80's work) Jason Lytle Prince Stephin Merritt
  5. john wesley harding - bob dylan guerrilla - super furry animals soul journey - gillian welch agib - wilco love and theft - bob dylan muswell hillbillies - the kinks liege and lief - fairport convention sail away - randy newman the band - the band fulfillingness last finale - stevie wonder
  6. I don't think Linda Thompson did it alone. But maybe she did. If the version you heard is the one from the album then Richard Thompson takes the lead and Linda sings back-up. I could do a YSI mix of a few of their best songs if you or anyone wants. They were an incredible pair. Talking about Richard and Linda. I saw X Factor a few weeks ago and a girl sang The Dimming Of The Day (by Richard Thompson), and she did a pretty good job of it. The panel, including Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne said what a beautiful song and that they'd never heard it before, I don't know if that prompted them
  7. There must be some lucky soul with a whole film of this stuff somewhere.
  8. we'll if Gazza can have a career in sport and music, anyone can!
  9. Damn! You're right. I always thought it was a traditional song. Well that makes it even better then!
  10. I still haven't resolved in my mind whether he is the good Hodgkins or the bad Hodgkins yet.
  11. I even think that Stone Temple Pilots Purple album is a good listen. Soundgarden though, truly are my favourite band from that time. Ben Shepherd's work always interested me the most in the band. Anyone that has not got the album Hater (which is Shepherd and Cameron's side project along with a couple of others), should get it - that still sounds great!
  12. yeah, definately. ten has some great songs, but the production lets it down from this current perspective on things.
  13. Guero is pretty good. Not great, but worth hearing at least. To be honest I only really ever listen to stuff up to and before Mutations, not that I don't like the other albums, I just prefer his earlier stuff a little bit more. In some ways, I think his production and arrangements have become far better, yet the song writing is not as enjoyable as a result of this.
  14. I think we've had this discussion before. Unless it's just de ja vu. Have you heard all his other albums though? I assume so.
  15. Someone stole that album, along with De La Soul Is Dead, from me at my old workplace and I've never replaced it. I should, because I used to love it. NP. His version of El Paso is just perfect.
  16. Sorry for being a know-all; it's not very becoming, I know.
  17. I read both this and the McCartney articles yesterday in the Times, can't say I cared too much for either of them. Nirvana was the only grunge band I never liked much, and I agree that other albums have aged better, but that comment had some major flaws. 1. Superunknown was released in 1994, it was Badmotorfinger that was Nevermind's contemporary, and both those albums, especially Superunknown were hailed as high points in the scene. 2. Nevermind is not really all that Nirvana are about, he might be able to draw some lineage from that album to Blink-182, but you could equally take an album lik
  18. twelve bedsteads in search of an answer 01 little david - james taylor 02 tempo no tempo - os mutantes 03 rolling one sun blues - wooden wand & the sky high band 04 you broke my heart - lavender diamond 05 jasper & the miners - paul siebel 06 up on the hill where they do the boogie - john hartford 07 butterfly - tommy peltier 08 fear - lambchop 09 simon smith & the amazing dancing bear - harry nilsson 10 now i wanna be your dad - andre ethier (all the songs overlap/run into each other, so if anyone is silly enough to make a cd of this, make sure you don't leave gaps)
  19. Damn that kid can dance. The bit right at the end where he blows the cigarette/spliff smoke out and it goes Pshht! is the best bit though.
  20. I really like Strange Apparition. I am liking the whole thing so far, the production is incredibly good and suits his voice really well.
