Interesting that you're not happy with the audio quality. I always love a matrix, prefer to a sterile soundboard. I don't have this release (didn't act quick enough ) , but the audio quality of the official box releases has been phenomenal to my ears. The May, '77 box, SSDD, Winterland boxes, etc.

Any folks going to the Phil shows in NYC this week are probably aware of this already, posted by Phil on his FB page: Apparently it was bad and Phil had to post the following so be careful out there! http://liveforlivemusic.com/news/phil-lesh-warns-fans-of-aggressive-nypd-tactics-outside-best-buy-theater/ Phil Lesh Warns Fans Of Aggressive NYPD Tactics Outside Best Buy Theater With several shows remaining at his current Best Buy Theater run, Phil Lesh has sent out an advisory for all fans attending the shows over the next few nights. Apparently, the NYPD has been cracking down hard o

Very hard core, year in and year out. A very broad array of musical styles. Heck, if I lived within striking distance of Brooklyn Bowl, my numbers would at least double. -

I keep a log. 24 last year, 21 so far this year. For Festivals, I count each festival day as 1. i.e,. Solid Sound, I count as 3. For Jazzfest, I count a day at the Fairgrounds as 1, and then any late night shows as another. Not bad for middle age, though weeknight shows are getting harder and harder. Someone mentioned living in NYC and the availability of music, my (older than me) buddy racked up over 160 shows last year. -
Huh? I have the 2 cd version, and I don't have that.

Jeff Tweedy, The Ballad of the Opening Band. http://thekey.xpn.org/tag/gotta-hear-song-of-the-week/ -
Whoa, Reflektor is sounding fantastic. Almost through my first listen, definitely has my attention. Can't say I've listened to a tremendous amount of 2013 releases, but this one shoots to the top of my chart.

Which reminds me, when I moved to Boston in 1979, one of my new friends landed here from Providence, and introduced us to this band, The Mundanes. We saw them many times in such famous clubs as The Rat, The Inn Square Men's Bar, and others. Speaking for myself, the lead singer Marsha attracted my boyhood fancy. I'm sure many others as well. The keyboard player, John, went on to fame and fortune in TMBG. Seeing The Mundanes many times, it was never obvious to us that he would be the one to make it. But good for him. I've never seen TMBG in all these years.

Not a "heard", but YHF mentioned by Scents & Subtle Sounds as a choice for Phish to cover at their Halloween show. http://www.scentsandsubtlesounds.com/2013/10/17/10-albums-phish-should-cover-for-halloween/

i was listening to Rock n Roll Animal yesterday afternoon and said to myself, "Hmm in a few hours Phish will be opening with Rock and Roll." Did you see Trey's tweet about Lou, very nice words.

Bands with critical acclaim/respect that don't deserve it.

I am glad that I didn't see Lou Reed's name listed in a response to this topic. -
That is snapping my head around. Lou. Next up on the table: Rock n Roll Animal

Hope they keep it going from Worcester.

Phish destroyed Worcester last night. Looking forward to night 2. http://phishthoughts.com/2013/10/26/boomshakalaka/

I was off the GD bus the years they played there, I wasn't seeing them from '81-87, so I know I missed some Centrum shows. Saw Jerry there a few times, I want to say '87 and maybe '91 after the fall GD tour? Anyhow, I always hate that building.

I hate the Worcester Centrum/DCU Center. The worst place I go to. But, they didn't ask me when they booked the tour, so off I go. That being said, I've had many memorable Phish shows in that dump. Given that by all accounts they've been on fire all 2012 and 2013, I am very psyched.

Phish, tonight and tomorrow in Worcester. Haven't seen them since June 2012, way too long for me.

Even assuming you're correct and it's just Layla, that by itself is enough to keep him off this list. -

The Clash were authentic, real deal, I don't care how they came together. -

Based on my own criteria, I should go back and delete my post adding Radiohead to this category. Though I've tried and tried to like their music without success, I'm not going to deny them their critical acclaim/respect. -

I don't think so. There are any number of bands I can't stand, but wouldn't place on this list. Black Sabbath for example (even though they were my first or second concert when I was 13, Master of Reality tour at the Academy of Music). I don't like anything about them but I recognize they've had a number of anthemic songs and an important impact on an entire genre of music over a long period of time, so I wouldn't say they don't deserve the critical acclaim/respect they've had. So to me, there is a distinction.
