Interesting article in today's New York Times about what is the best Grateful Dead show ever.

I work with a guy who consistently mixes up "exacerbate" and "exasperate."

John Cale vs. Lou Reed (post-Velvets)Oil Can Boyd replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song For me it's Lou. I like Cale a lot - and would also put Paris 1919 way up there, but for me there is more Lou material that I really like. I've been listening to Berlin recently. Blue Mask remains an all time favorite. I just got copies of New York and his first one on CD. I even like some of his live stuff - Rock n Roll Animal and Live in Italy in particular. With that said, neither of them has put anything out in a while that has really engaged me.

Really? I suppose I could look it up but who besides Crazy Julian Tavarez?

Hadn't listened to this in a while. And crossing threads a bit here, I think this is an album that should be heard in its entirety.

I just finished Season 2 and really liked it. I'm hoping HBO starts Season 3 on demand this weekend.

As was I. And I (and the five people I was with) agree.

For Massachusetts folks (or anyone who wants to travel), Bon Iver is playing two shows at a really small (300 seats) theater on Cape Cod. May 11 and 12 at the historic Cape Cinema in Dennis. Tickets are on sale now at the Cape Cinema website.

I just read a book on the making of Blood on the Tracks. Buddy Cage is interviewed and he tells it this way, as well. To some extent he trashes Garcia's playing but also reports that Jerry told the NRPS guys that they needed to get a real player. Cage also tells a funny story about playing on Blood on the Tracks. I'm paraphrasing here but basically Cage was adding overdubs and Dylan came over and told Cage that he was doing it all wrong. Cage got pissed, played a blistering solo, and stormed out of the room. Dylan then came out laughing and said that getting Cage mad was the only way t

For the last week or so that has been the only CD in my car so I have been listening to it a lot.

Matthew Pearl just bought the house I grew up in so I thought I'd read one of his books.

I just read through the whole thread to make sure that was on there. Another one I really like is Egyptian Reggae by Jonathan Richman.

Some of the comments in response to the short-list are pretty out of control.

My first concert was Pete Seeger when I was about 6 or 7. My parents took the whole family. (My second concert was the Jerry Garcia Band when I was about 15. Mom and Dad stayed at home for that one.)

Wow - this looks really good but also sort of sad. And, yes, nice use of the Arcade Fire.

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (out 5/25/09)Oil Can Boyd replied to solace's topic in Someone Else's Song Via Pitchfork: Phoenix's new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, doesn't come out until May 26 (for now), but they'll hit "SNL" a week from this Saturday, April 4. The pop-rock quartet are set to play the Best New Music'd "1901" and the quite-possibly-even-catchier first single "Lisztomania", which hasn't been released in any official form yet. Looks like things are really coming together for these well-dressed Frenchmen-- and we anticipate even bigger things from them in the coming months. Seth Rogen hosts the April 4 episode, officially making it a can't miss. So don't.

Nick Cave's version came up on shuffle for me yesterday. I'm not sure it's as good as the original but it is pretty great.
