How about concerts you had tickets for but never saw?
Oil Can Boyd replied to John Smith's topic in Someone Else's Song
The only one I can think of in all my years of concert going was Eric Clapton in about 1981. He had an "ulcer." -
Not my favorite by Auster but it has its moments.

Jon Stewart destroys Mad Money's Jim Cramer
Oil Can Boyd replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I have never watched Cramer's show but I expected him to put up more of a fight or at least a defense. -
You and me both. And I'm guessing we weren't alone.

Who are the 5 best live bands you've ever seen?

The Feelies - I've seen them a lot and never saw a bad show -
Top 3 most underwhelming bands/artists you've ever seen

Good one. That tour was the first time I had seen Dylan. I was a huge fan (and still am) but I was so disappointed. -
Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (out 5/25/09)
Oil Can Boyd replied to solace's topic in Someone Else's Song
For French rock and rollers they are pretty damn good. I really like their album Alphabetical. I saw them a few years ago when I was out in LA and they were great. Much more rocking than the albums. -

The first one that somes to mind for me is Stevie Ray Vaughn in 1985. I'm not a huge fan to begin with but it was in a big hockey rink, the place was half full, and the sound was laughably bad. You just couldn't hear anything but a muddy wash of guitar. -
The third Dead show I ever saw was three nights later in Boston. I: Jack Straw, Tennessee Jed, Mama Tried, Mexicali Blues, Bird Song, C.C. Rider, Althea, Let it Grow, Franklin's Tower II: Terrapin Station, Playin' in the Band, He's Gone, drums, Not Fade Away, Black Peter, Around and Around, Johnny B. Goode E: U.S. Blues

Blitzen Trapper and Alela Diane
Oil Can Boyd replied to tinnitus photography's topic in After The Show
Indeed. I was there, just to the left of the big column in the middle of the floor. -
My first experience was similar yet very different from a weather perspective. At my high school in the spring they would have a field day where everyone would go out to the playing fields and there was stuff going on. At the time I was pretty into the Dead but 72-74 was my favorite era. So it was a beautiful spring day and my friends and I were hanging out and some guys sat down near us. One of them had a boom box and he put on the Dark Star from Live/Dead. It totally blew me away. I thought I knew the Dead but this was something really different. I got my own copy the very next day.

Springsteen's Atlantic City is a pretty great song.

Has anyone read "A Simple Twist of Fate: Bob Dylan and the Making of Blood on the Tracks" by Andy Gill (who I assume is not the Gang of Four guitarist)? I just read a few pages in a bookstore and it seemed like there are some good stories from some of the players, but I didn't buy it.

Just don't try to sell your own shirts: Phish is kicking off its reunion tour with a lawsuit against bootleggers. The Vermont-based rock band, which developed a cult following over two decades before splitting up, will perform for the first time since 2004 tomorrow night at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. But first the foursome will ask a judge to block the sale of bootleg T-shirts, posters, and other merchandise at its upcoming concerts. US District Judge Raymond Jackson will consider the band's request for an injunction this afternoon. (AP)

I picked Exile but Sway might be my favorite Stones song.

Nothing but rumors but this was in today's Boston Globe: U2 is pulling out all the stops to hype its new CD, "No Line on the Horizon," which hits stores Tuesday. Bono and the boys played a surprise gig Friday on top of the BBC building in London, and Monday the lads take up residence on "The Late Show with David Letterman," where they'll be Dave's musical guest all week. (It's the first time a band has been given five nights on Letterman's show.) That's not all. According to the Hartford's Courant Eric Danton, the guerilla marketing campaign continues Friday, when Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayto

Great article about Bobby Orr in the current Sports Illustrated. -
I remember a game at Fenway in late 1988 where the Sox were playing the A's. The fans in right field (where I was sitting) were getting on Canseco with the steroid chant. He walked over to the stands, flexed his muscles, laughed, and then took his position playing right field.
