  1. Some of the comments in response to the short-list are pretty out of control.
  2. My first concert was Pete Seeger when I was about 6 or 7. My parents took the whole family. (My second concert was the Jerry Garcia Band when I was about 15. Mom and Dad stayed at home for that one.)
  3. Wow - this looks really good but also sort of sad. And, yes, nice use of the Arcade Fire.
  4. Via Pitchfork: Phoenix's new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, doesn't come out until May 26 (for now), but they'll hit "SNL" a week from this Saturday, April 4. The pop-rock quartet are set to play the Best New Music'd "1901" and the quite-possibly-even-catchier first single "Lisztomania", which hasn't been released in any official form yet. Looks like things are really coming together for these well-dressed Frenchmen-- and we anticipate even bigger things from them in the coming months. Seth Rogen hosts the April 4 episode, officially making it a can't miss. So don't.
  5. Nick Cave's version came up on shuffle for me yesterday. I'm not sure it's as good as the original but it is pretty great.
  6. That is how it is listed on the inside of both the vinyl and CD versions of Reckoning.
  7. I am part way through Season 2 right now - and I also watch The Office. The funny thing about watching both is that Michael Scott's ex-girlfriend and his new boss are both on The Wire.
  8. Was that at the ICA in Boston? I thought about going but never made it. BTW, I saw your Throwing Muses photos and thought they were great. I also thought the show was great.
  9. I remember being unable to convince anyone to come with me to see a show billed as a band featuring members of the Pixies and Throwing Muses. It turned out to be what I think was the only live Breeders' show where Tanya Donelly played with them.
  10. To answer my own question, I did track down a cheap copy of this book and it is decent. There is a lot of information about the Minneapolis sessions and those players who never got any formal credit for playing. The album cover still lists only the New York musicians (Eric Weissberg & Deliverance).
  11. God - John Lennon Hardly Getting Over It - Husker Du
  12. That and Remember the Mountainbed always get me.
  13. I have not read Jude the Obscure but I think Henry Roth's Call It Sleep is the most depressing book I have ever read.
  14. New Mark Kozelek live album coming out on May 12. Details here.
  15. NFL.com reporting that the Patriots are going after Julius Peppers.
  16. Throwing Muses - House Tornado Saw a great show by them on Saturday night. Their drummer (David Narcizo) is one of my favorite drummers.
  17. Interesting. I like them a lot but I think their albums can get sort of snoozy. I have only seen them once and it was much better - and much more rocking - than I thought it would be.
  18. Only one I ever saw was Etta James and the Tower of Power horns on 12/30/82. They played Hard to Handle and Tell Mama. It was pretty sweet.
  19. Yup, me too. Peter Buck came out and played one song with them. But that was a loooong time ago.
  20. The only one I can think of in all my years of concert going was Eric Clapton in about 1981. He had an "ulcer."
  21. Not my favorite by Auster but it has its moments.
  22. I have never watched Cramer's show but I expected him to put up more of a fight or at least a defense.
  23. You and me both. And I'm guessing we weren't alone.
