  1. Been on an early REM binge recently and I like this as much as anything they ever did.
  2. LouieB - it's about Ginger Baker. I really enjoyed that one; I thought it was very well done. He is quite a talent but he also somewhat nuts.
  3. Bands I have seen ten or more times: Buffalo Tom Feelies Grateful Dead Magnetic Fields Pixies (although that might be just under 10) Throwing Muses Wilco Yo La Tengo
  4. Elvis Perkins - April 15 Sufjan Stevens - May 4 Stephin Merritt/Sam Davol - June 9 Others I'm thinking about: Belle & Sebastian - March 30 Calexico - June 4 Boston Calling first night (Sharon Van Etten, Tame Impala, and Beck) - May 22 Buffalo Tom - June 26
  5. Wesley Stace's (aka John Wesley Harding) Cabinet of Wonders with Tanya Donelly, Atul Gawande, Kristin Hersh, Maeve Higgins, and Bill Janovitz
  6. I'm really enjoying The Jinx. What a weird story.
  7. Read this years ago but I'm going to Savannah in a couple of weeks so I though I should read it again.
  8. I don't know if it was the first but an early one was seeing the Jerry Garcia Band play Tangled Up in Blue in 1980. It was a great version but I went out and bought Blood on the Tracks the next day - and that remains one of my top ten all time favorite albums.
  9. Peaky Blinders. We have one episode left ...
  10. Tour dates: http://thereplacementsofficial.com/pages/concerts
  11. Big fan of that one. Love "Up with People."
  12. Well now I know that all of those "restoration fees" that I've been paying at the Orpheum over the years have been put to good use ...
  13. Ha! Yeah, I don't have any sense of the level of interest in this. Here's one indicator: I just read that they had 2,000 copies of a clear vinyl up for pre-sale today and it sold out already.
  14. New Sufjan album out on March 31 (and it's being billed as a return to his “folk roots”): http://store.asthmatickitty.com/collections/featured/products/sufjan-stevens-carrie-lowell?variant=1093668620
  15. Just finished Hotel New Hampshire. I thought I had read all of Irving's books but somehow I missed that one. Now I am on to Joe Klein's Woody Guthrie biography. Turns out that Guthrie did, in fact, live in a place called Okfuskee.
  16. From today's Boston Globe: No one is quite sure how a new, 24-minute song by the Replacements surfaced online, least of all the band’s guitarist Dave Minehan. The track, a bizarre bit of improvisation recorded in October at Minehan’s Waltham studio, is being widely shared after it was mysteriously uploaded to Soundcloud. (The song was first posted by the Boston-based music blog Bradley’s Almanac.) “It’s funny the secret life these little things can have,” Minehan told us Tuesday. “They bubble up and scare everyone to death.” Best known as the frontman for the underappreciated Boston band The
  17. Replacements release a 25-minute jazzy jam session: https://soundcloud.c...ereplacements-1
  18. Watched this yesterday (while recovering from having a wisdom tooth pulled). Wow - I had heard some stories about Baker but didn't know most of it.
  19. And did anyone notice Neutral Milk Hotels "Holland 1945" playing at the very end. Apparently Colbert is a big fan.
  20. Top five (in no order but all in the Boston area): Neutral Milk Hotel Slint Feelies Replacements Throwing Muses/Tanya Donelly
