  1. Well now I know that all of those "restoration fees" that I've been paying at the Orpheum over the years have been put to good use ...
  2. Ha! Yeah, I don't have any sense of the level of interest in this. Here's one indicator: I just read that they had 2,000 copies of a clear vinyl up for pre-sale today and it sold out already.
  3. New Sufjan album out on March 31 (and it's being billed as a return to his “folk roots”): http://store.asthmatickitty.com/collections/featured/products/sufjan-stevens-carrie-lowell?variant=1093668620
  4. Just finished Hotel New Hampshire. I thought I had read all of Irving's books but somehow I missed that one. Now I am on to Joe Klein's Woody Guthrie biography. Turns out that Guthrie did, in fact, live in a place called Okfuskee.
  5. From today's Boston Globe: No one is quite sure how a new, 24-minute song by the Replacements surfaced online, least of all the band’s guitarist Dave Minehan. The track, a bizarre bit of improvisation recorded in October at Minehan’s Waltham studio, is being widely shared after it was mysteriously uploaded to Soundcloud. (The song was first posted by the Boston-based music blog Bradley’s Almanac.) “It’s funny the secret life these little things can have,” Minehan told us Tuesday. “They bubble up and scare everyone to death.” Best known as the frontman for the underappreciated Boston band The

  7. Watched this yesterday (while recovering from having a wisdom tooth pulled). Wow - I had heard some stories about Baker but didn't know most of it.
  8. And did anyone notice Neutral Milk Hotels "Holland 1945" playing at the very end. Apparently Colbert is a big fan.
  9. Top five (in no order but all in the Boston area): Neutral Milk Hotel Slint Feelies Replacements Throwing Muses/Tanya Donelly
  10. Love that one. There was a really stressful time in my work life about ten years ago and that was the only CD I had in my car so I listened to it a ton.
  11. I have that but haven't started it yet - but your comments confirm my fears about it. I think the relatively straightforward Black Swan Green remains my favorite Mitchell book.
  12. Ian McLagan in critical condition: http://kxan.com/2014/12/03/ian-mclagan-in-critical-condition-at-austin-hospital/
  13. Just re-read Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and am now on to:
  14. We just started watching Orphan Black (on BBC America) - and it's pretty good.
  15. When I was 15 I saw the Jerry Garcia Band play Tangled Up in Blue. I bought Blood on the Tracks the next day and have probably listened to it more than any other album.
  16. Saw the Grant Hart documentary the other night and enjoyed it. When I last saw Grant he sort of distanced himself from it which seems a little weird given that so much of it is just Grant talking. But I suppose you can edit something to give a different spin on things.

  19. Yes - great seeing/meeting you! I thought the show was fantastic. Not much banter and they ripped through a lot of songs. I like the new stuff but it's definitely slowed down a notch from the early stuff (like Mass Romantic, which they played at the end). But with Dan on stage they had eight musicians and seven microphones so there is lots of vocals.
  20. The show is up on archive.org (https://archive.org/details/robynhitchcock2014-11-12.Somerville-MA). I haven't listened to it yet but here's the setlist: 01. intro 02. The Abyss 03.
