Via Pitchfork http://pitchfork.com/news/59788-yo-la-tengo-collect-covers-reworkings-new-songs-on-stuff-like-that-there-announce-tour/ Yo La Tengo are back with a new album to follow 2013's Fade. It's called Stuff Like That There, and it's out August 28 via Matador. It features re-recorded versions of some of their old songs as well as covers of the Cure, Hank Williams, the Parliaments, Sun Ra, the Lovin' Spoonful, Darlene McCrea, and others. Listen to their cover of "Automatic Doom", a song by Special Pillow (the 1990s Hoboken band that featured Yo La Tengo's James McNew), below. Update: A

	And how is it?

I watched it last night. He says he bought the house in 1972 with the money he got to record Ace and he's lived there ever since.

Awesome! I first saw them at the Rat in about 1986.

I'm with you and felt the same way. I wasn't sitting right next to my grumpy friend so when we were walking out and he said he didn't think it was that great I thought he was kidding.
-
knotgreen - what did you think? I thought it was really great - as did six of the eight people I was with. But one found it too depressing (and he's had some recent personal loss so that's understandable) and the other thought Sufjan was so pretentious and full of himself that my friend said he was tempted to leave.

I was holding the copy in the Harvard Square Newbury Comics last week but didn't buy it. I'd love that Feelies' single but can't justify the cost for the whole thing.

I'll keep an eye out. I'll be coming right from work so "business casual," with my wife and two dudes, all in our late-ish forties.
-
Nice! I'll be there too - but I'm in the 12th row.

	Red and White both ...

My two favorite songs on that record are "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?" and "Keep on Growing" both of which Whitlock co-wrote.

I loved that book. Fascinating story. A few weeks ago I saw him read from his new book about the sinking of the Lusitania.

Agreed. I almost tried to stay off of social media last night but I couldn't resist. That top photo (with Paul and Tommy wearing masks) is fantastic!

I just ran into J Mascis near the venue and even he couldn't help me with a ticket!

Except everyone in Boston. Lots of grumbling - and sour grapes - about their club show here next week. People who got into the 525 person club are thrilled and everyone else who is shut out is frustrated.

Congrats on getting photo access for that. Assuming I don't win the lottery tomorrow I'd be happy to be your +1 or carry your photo equipment or whatever it takes. Just let me know what time to meet you there.
