  1. Interesting interview with Garfunkel: “George came up to me at a party once and said “my Paul is to me what your Paul is to you.” He meant that psychologically they had the same effect on us. The Pauls sidelined us. I think George felt suppressed by Paul and I think that’s what he saw with me and my Paul. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopmusic/11626027/art-garfunkel-interview-paul-simon.html
  2. And is that the end? Via Pitchfork: During the band's performance at Primavera Sound today, The Replacements' Paul Westerberg announced that this would be the last time that the band plays together. After saying that the band stayed at the hotel instead of coming in for sound check, he also reportedly said "lazy bastards to the end" and smashed his guitar. http://pitchfork.com/news/59854-paul-westerberg-says-the-replacements-just-played-their-final-show/

  11. Awesome! I first saw them at the Rat in about 1986.
  12. I'm with you and felt the same way. I wasn't sitting right next to my grumpy friend so when we were walking out and he said he didn't think it was that great I thought he was kidding.
  13. knotgreen - what did you think? I thought it was really great - as did six of the eight people I was with. But one found it too depressing (and he's had some recent personal loss so that's understandable) and the other thought Sufjan was so pretentious and full of himself that my friend said he was tempted to leave.
  14. I was holding the copy in the Harvard Square Newbury Comics last week but didn't buy it. I'd love that Feelies' single but can't justify the cost for the whole thing.
  15. I'll keep an eye out. I'll be coming right from work so "business casual," with my wife and two dudes, all in our late-ish forties.
  16. Nice! I'll be there too - but I'm in the 12th row.
  17. My two favorite songs on that record are "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?" and "Keep on Growing" both of which Whitlock co-wrote.
  18. I loved that book. Fascinating story. A few weeks ago I saw him read from his new book about the sinking of the Lusitania.
