  1. How do they do it now? The first time I saw them (at the Roxy) they opened with it and it was tremendous. The next time I saw them they opened with it and it was pretty good. The third and final time I saw them they opened with it and the whole show started to feel like schtick.
  2. I saw both Arcade Fire and the White Stripes when that venue was called the Roxy and they were both packed.
  3. Will do. Drummer Stanley Demeski is funny about requests like that both on his facebook page and the band's page. He used to respond by saying they were still looking at touring plans, hoping to get around, etc. More recently he has been pretty emphatic that their future touring is pretty much limited to the northeast. Apparently someone in the band doesn't fly anymore ...
  4. Not heard but seen (in t-shirt form). My town has Town Day where they shut off the main drag and have booths and food and all kinds of stuff. It was packed full of people and I was just trying to leave and I saw a couple walking towards me and both of them were wearing Wilco t-shirts.
  5. I knew the Red Sox would be better than they were last year but I didn't expect them to win the AL East. Seems like much of what changed was addition by subtraction - starting with the manager - and it will be interesting to see how deep they go in the playoffs.
  6. Very nice. I'll check that out. It reminds me of some of the stuff on William Tyler's Impossible Truth (which came out this year).
  7. Sufjan Stevens Judson College 11/19/03 One of my favorite things by Sufjan. It's a quiet solo acoustic (gutiar and banjo) set of mostly Michigan and Seven Swans stuff.
  8. Thanks for those recommendations. I've heard some - but not all - of those.
  9. mountain bed, in the recently closed thread you said that the 2/13/70 Dark Star was not your favorite. Do you have a favorite?
  10. New dates: 11-01 St. Paul, MN - Roy Wilkins Auditorium 11-03 Chicago, IL - Aragon Ballroom 11-05 Toronto, Ontario - The Kool Haus 11-06 Montreal, Quebec - Metropolis 11-07 Boston, MA - House of Blues 11-09 Philadelphia, PA - Electric Factory 11-11-12 New York, NY - Hammerstein Ballroom
  11. Tanya Donelly's been putting out a batch of new songs every couple of weeks through bandcamp. The second set came out yesterday and they are quite good.
  12. That's funny - that is the exact opposite of my timeline of interest in them. I started paying attention to them in '79, became pretty obsessed with them around '81, and saw them for the last time in '86.
  13. Years ago a friend of mine said to me "you should listen to the Feelies because you look like you could be one of them." He wasn't totally wrong ...
  14. And as young as Slint were, Brian McMahan and Britt Walford had already been in the amazing Squirrel Bait. I remember reading an article that said Squirrel Bait broke up when two of the guys went of to college and that's when it struck me how young they were.
  15. Pavement - Unseen Power of the Picket Fence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DvVYwXqFEE
  16. Really liked this. It is a post apocalyptic novel but somehow brings a little more humanity to it than something like The Road.
  17. Wow - awesome. In 1990 I lived about a block from the Middle East but had never heard of Uncle Tupelo.
