They just announced a Boston area show - and they are playing at the TD Garden (which has a capacity of probably 18,000+ for a concert). I had no idea they were so popular.

The Boston show got a pretty good review: http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2013/10/10/brian-wilson-and-jeff-beck-deliver-virtuoso-night-music/c3yafmK6D74szfKz7UhsmN/story.html The Love is gone, as in Mike, playing state fair tents with his Beach Boys jukebox. But Brian Wilson’s family is growing. He already has the better band and now he’s got Al Jardine, the only Beach Boy whose vocal powers remain undiminished. And at the Wang Theatre Wednesday night, Wilson’s group threw us a curve ball Clayton Kershaw couldn’t snap off on six days rest. A few songs into his set, Wilson called onto s

The promo email I got was announcing Pixies tickets going on sale and then right below it announcing Breeders tickets going on sale ...

I worried a little when the Red Sox lost game 3 because the Rays' pitching can be so dominant so I was glad they closed it out last night. Back in the spring some analyst wrote about how Koji Uehara could be the key to the Red Sox pitching staff and boy was that right. He had quite a remarkable season.

Interesting idea. Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses) does something similar. I still listen to Your Favorite Music pretty regularly.

How do they do it now? The first time I saw them (at the Roxy) they opened with it and it was tremendous. The next time I saw them they opened with it and it was pretty good. The third and final time I saw them they opened with it and the whole show started to feel like schtick.

I saw both Arcade Fire and the White Stripes when that venue was called the Roxy and they were both packed.

After last night's terrific show ...

Will do. Drummer Stanley Demeski is funny about requests like that both on his facebook page and the band's page. He used to respond by saying they were still looking at touring plans, hoping to get around, etc. More recently he has been pretty emphatic that their future touring is pretty much limited to the northeast. Apparently someone in the band doesn't fly anymore ...

Not heard but seen (in t-shirt form). My town has Town Day where they shut off the main drag and have booths and food and all kinds of stuff. It was packed full of people and I was just trying to leave and I saw a couple walking towards me and both of them were wearing Wilco t-shirts.

I'm still a big fan of this record ...

I knew the Red Sox would be better than they were last year but I didn't expect them to win the AL East. Seems like much of what changed was addition by subtraction - starting with the manager - and it will be interesting to see how deep they go in the playoffs.

Very nice. I'll check that out. It reminds me of some of the stuff on William Tyler's Impossible Truth (which came out this year).

Sufjan Stevens Judson College 11/19/03 One of my favorite things by Sufjan. It's a quiet solo acoustic (gutiar and banjo) set of mostly Michigan and Seven Swans stuff.

Thanks for those recommendations. I've heard some - but not all - of those.

mountain bed, in the recently closed thread you said that the 2/13/70 Dark Star was not your favorite. Do you have a favorite?
-
Agreed. Still my favorite.

Tanya Donelly's been putting out a batch of new songs every couple of weeks through bandcamp. The second set came out yesterday and they are quite good.

So sorry for your loss.

That's funny - that is the exact opposite of my timeline of interest in them. I started paying attention to them in '79, became pretty obsessed with them around '81, and saw them for the last time in '86.
