didn't we outlaw butterfly(?) trading after 1987? obama said it best last night when he talked about not keeping up with new banking/investment/trading regulations. No regulations when things are going well...bailout when wall street tanks. Why do I feel I am picking up after a too much purple jesus juice frat party?

this one always makes me cry

Thank you for posting the commencement address...I had never read that, it is beautiful and brilliant as all his work is.I know several people who could use those words of wisdom. I'm still crushed yet I don't think I have every laughed out loud as much as I did when I read ASFTINDA so I think I'll get that out . Such a loss for all of us. Genius and sadness go together too often.

I really loved the go for it attitude of so many of the characters. The Recessional was awesome. The demise of the ferris wheel, Bloom's quote "But one thing was quite clear being broke didn't disturb be in the least. I had started with nothing, and if I now found myself with nothing, I was at least even. Actually, I was much better than even: I had had a wonderful time." Today, I was in the Mission and there on display at my favorite used book store was Forty Years of Landscape:Central Park by Olmstead...so gogo, I agree with you his way of working is fascinating. I looked up the San Franci

so glad you had a good time...saw the set list on nine bullets...what a great evening! Isn't 3 dimes down the best Stones song not written by Mick and Keith? And The Opening Act awesome...counting the days to the Fillmore Show.

OMG does it get any better? How was the rest of the show....though that really says it all doesn't it?

thanks for the link A-man. I missed this news yesterday, so a beautiful way to start the day, with Echoes and fond thoughts of the joy Rick Wright brought to all of us.

Wow Edie thanks for the article I think.... here is a quote from an SF gate article Christopher Whalen, managing director of Institutional Risk Analytics, a research firm, predicts that approximately 110 banks with $850 billion in assets could close by next July. That's out of 8,400 federally insured institutions, he said, which together hold $13 trillion in assets. and the full link http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?.../f184402D70.DTL and the CNN money link http://money.cnn.com/ I've been saying the money "feels really funny" for a couple of years now. It will be interesti

I was thinking about the crane that has been flying over the nursery since I got back to SF last month....I'm sure there are some folks I work with that think I'm a bit kooky with the animal totem talk. http://www.sayahda.com/cyc.html

Is there anything like kudzu ? "Kudzu was introduced from Japan into the United States in 1876 at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, where it was promoted as a forage crop and an ornamental plant. From 1935 to the early 1950s the Soil Conservation Service encouraged farmers in the southeastern United States to plant kudzu to reduce soil erosion as above, and the Civilian Conservation Corps planted it widely for many years." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudzu. I'll do a little research at work today and let you folks know. I was thinking about going to visit this part of Chi

Right on! I would add that the Republicans have implemented a government who's foreign policy is being dictated by a think tank (http://www.newamericancentury.org/). To me this feels like taxation with out representation. Let the tea party begin.

Happy Bday Johnny! hope this year brings all you've dreamed of.

Tried to watch her speech this morning...couldn't handle the hypocrisy this early. She appears to be a good speaker and I did watch the interviews after her speech last night. I'd like to think we as a species could be less fearful. Thanks for the post. John and team brillant as usual. Isn't it ironic that the only truth is coming from comedians the last 8 years....send in the jesters.

Beautiful! I am so excited for cover songs. Thank you for posting this.

Guess folks are getting out their flasks right now. As for missing Jason and what he added to the mix, I sure do. However, I think Neff is an amazing musician who has filled the gap that Jason left. Time will tell if he adds more than great guitar work. I can see that happening. Zip City well the economy of words to paint that story...and 3 dimes down the other day in the park wreaked me...just amazing and the highlight of the set.
