  1. Thought you were referring to the teaching of, and not whatever your personal beliefs are. My apologies.
  2. After hearing two songs now, I'm more excited than ever that Beck has a new album coming out.
  3. It is a First Amendment issue. Teaching creationism or anything of its ilk has been ruled unconstitutional again and again.
  4. Fortunately, they aren't able to pull anything in Texas. The science textbooks that were approved teach evolution and have no mention of creationism or "alternate theories." Plus, the selection process of the committees that look over textbooks was changed to avoid the problems that were recently faced. The issue came up with the science books because creationists and religious zealots who were elected to the school board were able to put unqualified people on the review committees who had no experience or qualifications in any science fields. That won't happen anymore. Plus, the past chairm
  5. Huh? The "implication" was that there exists a conundrum of sorts with an overweight Asian. I thought it was funny.
  6. I see that sentiment a lot and it always confuses me. I think he's been good in the few movies I've seen him in, and in most interviews I see him or articles like that, he always comes across as an interesting and thoughtful guy.
  7. Such a tragic loss with many tragic angles (his children, the disease of addiction, etc.). It certainly sucks to think of the number of roles we won't ever be able to see him in. He was excellent in everything.
  8. I don't know if weird is the right word. Just a thorough domination by the best defense in the league. Got pressure on Manning all night with their 4-man rush, leading to the two picks, and were always there with big hit after big hit on Broncos receivers after they made a catch. Manning was 17-23 for 104 and 2 interceptions in the first half. That's just damn impressive.
  9. It's the whole false narrative about Peyton's legacy and how these 60 minutes the Broncos play today will define his entire career. So dumb.
  10. She's running for governor. But she has very little chance, if any. She's consistently 10-15 points behind in polls, with the exception of the occasional outlier that sees her pull within 6-8.
  11. It's a constant battle. Here in Texas, there are four Republican candidates for Lieutenant Governor (arguably equally as important, if not more so, than the governor). They recently had a debate. All four expressed their desire to have creationism taught in school (which is both stupid and unconstitutional). Also, all four expressed their disdain for a recent court ruling where a judge allowed a man to take his brain-dead wife off of life support. The only reason she was still on it was because she was pregnant, and there was a recent law passed that stated a pregnant woman could not be take
  12. Go-Go Boots is easily their worst. But they haven't had a really good album since The Dirty South. Also, Gangstabilly and Pizza Deliverance are excellent. My hope is that with Shonna out of the band, they'll regain some past glory. She was their Yoko.
  13. It might be sad that more people don't take the responsibility of keeping themselves informed. However, I don't think one's interest in the state of the union address is an accurate gauge of that.
  14. People still pay attention to these things? I'll probably be reading/playing with my daughter. Or I'll fire up Netflix.
  15. I would. Young, homegrown pitching talent is the most valuable commodity of a baseball franchise. Also, we're not talking about a "can't miss" superstar in Justin Upton. He'd be a nice piece, but not worth giving up a valuable pitching prospect. He had a two great months surrounded by 4 bad ones. Choo's a better player, and I like the current outfield of Choo, Martin, and Rios.
  16. I don't know why you're ready to give up on Buckel already. See if he's worked through it.
  17. That Tanaka contract is ridiculous. I would want no part of that. There are still low-cost pitching options out there to add some depth to the rotation. Plus there's no need to go "all out" in any year. They've strengthened the offense. There's certainly no need to panic after Holland's injury and start throwing money at the problem.
  18. Effective pressure is more than just getting a sack. You saw it in the San Francisco game in the second half when Seattle's front kept getting pressure on Kaepernick, forcing him into bad throws or throwing it away. A key for Denver has been its running game, but Seattle's defense is good enough to potentially take that away and make the Broncos one dimensional. Also, I wouldn't call the Saints' or 49ers' receiving corps mediocre at all. And both teams compare very favorably with what Denver has. Seattle generally plays a hybrid man/zone coverage with two of the best safeties in the game a
  19. I've been catching up on a lot of movies I've been meaning to watch, as well as trying to see all the Oscar films. Her was excellent. I loved the way it used this futuristic idea to explore the basics of relationships, divorce, etc. (Much like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.) Before Midnight was also excellent. Those three have crafted an amazing cinematic relationship over the course of three films. This one goes a little darker with the realistic thorny issues that come up within a relationship after the initial "honeymoon phase." I also loved The Spectacular Now. Shailene Woodl
  20. There have been seven Super Bowls (out of 48) that have been played without a bye week. Super Bowls 4, 17, 25, 28, 34, 36, 37 (I dispensed with the roman numerals for ease of reading). Super Bowls 4 and 37 are the only ones I can't find a real reason for, unless realignment caused it in 2002. But the number of playoff teams stayed the same. SB 17 was the strike season of 1982. SB 25 was the first season with a regular season bye week, along with expanded playoffs SB 28 was the only season that squeezed two bye weeks for each team in the regular season SB 34, the league pushed the season ba
