  1. I've always liked Letterman, but it's been years since I've actually watched him. That's more a product of having little to no interest in late night television than any feelings on the quality of the various hosts. What are the numbers for late night TV? It seems that media coverage of the various shows far outweighs their value, but I'm not really sure.
  2. It appears we're the only intelligent ones here.
  3. I would go with #2. Easy choice. It's how I currently listen to music for the most part. And I would be much more comfortable with the mere memory of music I used to love than with the thought that there was so much music I would be missing from that point on.
  4. Also, if you look at the numbers closely, I think the real problem isn't money, it's incumbency. But for some reason, nobody wants to discuss term limits.
  5. I'm not sure it's as cut-and-dry with respect to "the most money wins." Here's an interesting article: https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2012/01/big-spender-always-wins.html I couldn't find the same info on the 2012 election.
  6. Isn't what the court saying here is that, essentially, there are ways to implement campaign finance reform, but limiting the overall amount of money an individual can give is not one of them?
  7. Read both of these over the last couple of days (the Shailene Woodley book club). I really enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars. Divergent was pretty bad.
  8. They have earthquakes there all the time. I also read an article that stated the focal point of this recent one indicated that it was not magma-related.
  9. I couldn't really make any National League predictions, but I definitely disagree with your AL choices. The West will come down to Texas and Oakland again, and I would have to reluctantly give the edge to the A's. Tampa Bay is easily a playoff team, if not the East winner. And I don't see anyone challenging Detroit in the Central. Wild cards will probably come down to Boston, New York, Kansas City, Texas, and maybe Cleveland.
  10. It's been a bit of a rough Spring for the Rangers, but I can't wait until Monday. I can't wait to see the young arms in the rotation. And I can't wait to see Prince hit at the Ballpark. I'm so glad baseball is here.
  11. This post will be deleted in 3...2...1...
  12. It begs the question of how bad does it have to get for the more moderate Republicans. As anecdotal evidence, I was talking to my dad the other night around the primary about how bad it has gotten that Dan Patrick would lead in the Lt. Governor's race (along with other alarming results). He actually agreed with me, but followed that up with how he would never vote for a "damn Democrat" either and would just rather not vote. When I told him that the Democratic candidate in that race was pretty good, and far better than the Republican will be, he didn't really have an answer for that. It makes
  13. I think the far right's influence is far greater now than it ever has been. Unfortunately, a large part of that is taking advantage of the ignorant, willfully or otherwise. There were candidates down here in the Republican primary on the state and local level running ads about how they're going to defeat Obama and fight Obamacare, etc. Last week, while driving home from work, there was a group of people on an overpass holding an American flag and a sign that said "Impeach Obama." The sadder thing is that since nobody bothers to vote, these outliers get elected. I almost hope that the GOP n
  14. I'm really looking forward to seeing it, although I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to it in the theater.
  15. This new Liars album is awesome!!! That is all.
  16. Ted had its moments. It wasn't bad.
  17. It didn't bother me, but I remember watching something a couple of years ago on the sun that I had to turn off because I was feeling a major panic attack coming.
  18. This has been debunked: http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2014/03/18/mh370_disappearance_chris_goodfellow_s_theory_about_a_fire_and_langkawi.html
  19. We went down to Wimberley (small town in the hill country near Austin) and stayed at a nice house with my brother's family. Went to Jester King and Stanley's, which is a great brewery and pizza place on a beautiful ranch outside Austin. Went to Sea World and my daughter rode her first roller coaster. Great week. Now I'm stuck back at work.
  20. Nice post. I've been so focused on the mystery surrounding the entire thing, which has made it easy for me to overlook the tragedy. I guess there's still a very small chance that the people on the flight are still alive, but I can't imagine what must be going through the minds of friends and family members.
  21. It's okay to admit that Obama has been an ineffective leader up to this point.
  22. Pretty decent list, except for a couple: http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/03/drive-by-truckers-top-10-songs/
  23. I was simply responding to a few reviews I had seen and some comments from people responding to the album, which overstated its greatness. "Return to form" probably means that, for those people that believe it is one, they think this album is better than the last few the band made and is more in line with the quality of earlier albums. Probably not realistic to expect that. St. Vincent and English Oceans came out within a week of each other, so I've been predominantly listening to those two over the last few days, and St. Vincent is the better listen. Also, your analogy doesn't make sense.
