I don't currently have a subscription to any magazines. This may change ... This may come in useful for your brother in France for communicating with the locals:- Harking back to the days of empire, the Shouting at Foreigners contest proved popular. There's some great stuff at that site - letters page, archive, ... thanks! Should provide some nice lunchtime reading for a while. You've made my day! I came dashed close to changing my avatar to some of the things in there. What do you think? Is Mr Gumby sacred now? Great to see Stephen Fry getting involved! Do you get QI on US TV?

Similar but different: I was in a pub in Prague on New Years Eve once with my wife. I could hear the two Irish guys on the other side of the pub table discussing my chances of pulling this Czech bird. I spoke to them in the end and we had a laugh over it. Oh, and pet peeves - mens socks with a diamond pattern on the ankle, and keychains worn on belts, and people who walk too slowly.

Rich, I shall expect to see you bouncing across the screen to Amadou & Mariam. Looks like a 1pm arrival on Sunday for me. -
This was news to me. I'm a little behind the times, so perhaps this is familiar to most, but it may help some:-

Baby, baby bayyyyyyyybeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!! I used to like the Cilla Black show as a kid. Found these:- Some classic 60's dancing in the middle. Surprise at the very end. I have vague memories of them appearing on her show, but I this was before I remember. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql0F62aw86w...cilla%20beatles The very very end of this is quite funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg5c1RewwQU...cilla%20beatles Now for the really good stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf-Q2rDd6Tw...cilla%20beatles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfgTgD4Wi-k...earch=the%20jam -

Oh wise one, I have had Cat Power - The Greatest more or less on repeat for the last week at work (not raucous so can still concentrate nicely). I understand this was a shift in direction with the Memphis thing and all. Should I check out here earlier stuff or will it be very different? -

Aah - I missed the beginning, though maybe that wasn't made clear. The 'son' was acting really well then! -

I'd say: great voice, but a lack of good songs and general stage experience to carry a show very well right now. Good luck to her, maybe someone who will do better things in the future if she isn't fully sucked into the easy listening mire of Joss Stone/Dido. Would probably make a pleasant outdoor evening show with some friends, but not going to blow your socks off.

I saw most of this on Saturday and was a bit disappointed (Beltman will be pleased to know tha tI was flipping channels back and forth between it and Ten - the Tehran taxi documentary). It seemed to fall between all possible stools - being neither a string of 'best performances' clips, a history of the travellers and alternative festivals, a showcase for eccentrics at the festival, or a video diary of 'how to survive the mud' etc. It was good to see Pulp at their best though. I would have enjoyed more a documentary on Eavis himself (and/or the relationship with the local community), from farme -
Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris live Liberty Hall, Texas 1973:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RocWz2lxyhE...;search=emmylou Gram not being very dynamic, but Emmylou is having a good time. Speaking of Emmylou:- Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris & Sheryl Crow (accordian?) Thanks for the info, and welcome to VC. Probably another one for the rumoured B-sides/rarities album. Brambles - I believe so. -
