  1. Spent the whole afternoon driving around listening to "Real Emotional Trash" for the first time, and what a heavenly day it was! I can immediately say that this is his best album (imo, of course) since Brighten the Corners. I loved every track, & that's rare for any record, let alone a Malkmus one. When the title track starts picking up speed at the 5 minute mark, another thing occurred to me: I think Janet Weiss has to be the best pure musician (whatever that means, I'm no expert, but I do know my Pavement) that has ever been in a SM-led group. Any thoughts on that?
  2. The Rice debate comes up every year, & this should finally be the year that he makes it. He was the most feared hitter in the game for a good 5 years. If you never saw him play and just look at the final numbers, I could see your skepticism. Imo, a no-brainer.
  3. Since I posted this in another thread for someone wanting to hear Less Than You Think, why not a New Year's Eve thread. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CO3D72VC The opener at MSG in 2004 (which was followed by a nasty )
  4. How's about as the surprising (but nonetheless awesome) opener NYE at The Garden in 04. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CO3D72VC You don't have to login to download. Happy New Years everyone!!!
  5. A.V. Club Albums of the Year I should have known what I was in for when I saw Fall Out Boy on the list, but check this out: The gripes leveled at Wilco's Sky Blue Sky mostly center around Jeff Tweedy's apparent backslide into the classic-rock gospel. No argument there
  6. Sounds like a blast. Always enjoyed seeing the bands I love at Maxwell's, though it's getting rarer.
  7. I got 4 for New Haven, but shut out for Philly.
  8. Absolutely!!! First Neil Young the other night in Wallingford (spectacular!!!) and now this! The Nutmeg State finally getting some love. Keep in touch. Tower Theatre should be great as well. Saw Radiohead open up their US leg there last year and the venue was beautiful.
  9. Yeah, there's definitely something wrong when you'd rather stay at Rutgers!?! (and I'm a Rutgers grad)
  10. Just wanted to bump the thread, but here's another from The Maker's favorite: "I was smoking a roundie Thank God you found me"
  11. Thanks for that. Been waaaaay too long since I listened to that one. Classic!!! Knockin on Mine - SNL Favorite line at the moment (not already said): "Lonely, I guess that's where I'm from" I could listen to and/or read about Paul all day
  12. I believe he was at that show. That was you I met there, right Dave? Anyway, I have family close to there so I'm up that way from time to time. I'll be sure to get in touch next time I'm around.
  13. While I agree with the majority here that Cease to Begin is less than perfect, Ben and his boys definitely put on a great show. I've seen them 3 times now, and they just keep getting better and better. Here's some vids from last week's Pearl Street (Northampton, Mass) show for anyone interested: No Ones Gonna Love You http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=21655715 Is There A Ghost http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=21656239 Islands on the Coast http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=21676410 Our Swords http://myspacetv.com/index.
  14. Band of Horses were supposed to be on Conan last nite, and instead we got served with an Art Brut re-run. Rats!
  15. Here's a couple more: Sucked Out (partial) myspacetv.com/index.cfm?f...d=21489732 Destination Ursa Major (partial) myspacetv.com/index.cfm?f...d=21490213 HHT (from the classic Senorita EP) myspacetv.com/index.cfm?f...d=21492431
  16. I know I've chatted here with a few fans of this underappreciated band. A reunion show that lived up to the hype (well, my hype anyway). The show and crowd were fantastic! Here are some vids I took from the balcony if you're interested. 17. As long as Gayrod doesn't sign with the Dodgers, I'll definitely be rooting for them next year.
  18. Misunderstood's on now. From earlier, when it wasn't working.
  19. Can't speak for anyone else, but I wasn't here because I wanted to concentrate on my listening and watching. That was sweet!!! Glad to see Jethro hasn't lost any of his charm.
  20. Working for me. Thanks for reminding me about this. You're not gettin it?
  21. Rockies in 6. One can hope (2 to 1 odds, had to take it).
  22. Of course the Colorado loss was a fluke, but it's still a loss. Oklahoma very well may have the best team in the nation, but there's no way you can say that deserve any #1 votes. Colorado is simply not a good football team. I don't even have a problem with the voting biases that are always prevelant, because there's nothing you can do about that. These rankings mean nothing right anyway. It's gonna change a bunch more times, because I don't think any of the current undefeated teams will run the table.
