  1. i saw devil's backbone a dragon's age ago. it's next on my netflix queue.
  2. the line 6 mm4 guitar effects pedal has an emulator of a leslie and a different rotating speaker. worthy!
  3. both films deal with the protagonist straddling between two realities. i had just watched brazil again and then rewatched pan's labyrinth.
  4. yeah. the "happy ending" version that was released in america. sam is in the chair, jack and helpmann were hovering over him, but he vacantly stared off into space as he imagined himself and gill in a house outside of the city.
  5. i'm never talking to you again - husker du i wanna destroy you - soft boys sick of you - gwar too many to list.
  6. the ending reminded me of Brazil.
  7. i've accidentally written neil young and drag the river material. it happens. it sucks, but it happens. the worst one was i had a song that i was super proud of and actually recorded only to realize as i was mixing it down that it was a bob mould song that i was playing in a slightly different time and one key up. for fun, i played it like bob and it sounded a zillion times better. damn.
  8. http://www.davea.org/ruler.htm i only got to rule long enough to heat up my veggie burger, so don't blame me for the inefficient administration i never had the chance to appoint!
  9. http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...#39;s+labyrinth here's the old thread on this, but yeah -- it was amazing. Del Toro's fairy tale absolutely captured what made the pre-Perrault fairy tales so impressionable. fairy tales were warnings, heavy handed rebukes to immoral behaviors. this movie did a great job of brutalizing the viewer in a fantastic and beautiful setting. speaking of watching with commentary, this disc is worth getting the deluxe edition for the extras. there's some nice featurettes that explain a bit of what the meaning was and how it was done. i LOVE this movie.
  10. randi rhodes isn't so bad content wise, but she's only got about 15 minutes of material that she makes last for two hours a day. it's bad radio. i like ed schultz.
  11. i really like THE BIG ONE. i'm not too into his other films. the government should not be in the business of promoting commercial films.
  12. i've had the score to fritz lang's METROPOLIS in my head for days now.
  13. our local affiliate went sports talk a couple months ago. that sucked.
  14. the absolute best part of that news article is one of the charges in the suit is for FALSE IMPRISONMENT! who HASN'T felt that way in a classroom at given times? i don't think i'd ever show brokeback mountain in a classroom because there's nothing really merited in it for my discipline. i have shown eastwood's Unforgiven to a class where the youngest person was 17, but that was for a legitimate educational objective in a night school course. i've also used evil dead II when prefacing a unit on shakespeare (again, night school). i'm showing brazil in my anthropology class today and that's
  15. the ONLY bad thing about macbooks (i am posting from one) is the optical drive is a kinda cheap piece of crap. for most people it works just fine, but for anyone decompiling dvd media, they're a crapshoot. if you plan on backing up your media library or pirating all your netflix rentals, get an external dvd burner. that said, i really like my macbook, my g4 tower and my g4 flowerpot imac at work.
  16. it's super easy to install your own cable modem, and you can get a cable modem for less than $50 and not have to pay $2.50 a month for one forever.
  17. i can honestly say i wasn't wishing him dead. i wonder what larry flynt's take on jerry's passing is. this is kinda cool in a way because he's the first high profile phony minister to kick the bucket since i got my ordination from the online church. farewell colleague.
  18. many happy returns. i don't think i know anyone who was born on mother's day.
  19. i'm re-reading sophie's world by jostein gaarder. i love his books. up next is a nonfiction survey of mythology by ken davis.
  20. grippe novelty for your own special sweetheart jawbox scrapbook of my fatal accidents
  21. yeah, there's honestly no way my stuff is eclectic. almost all of my music is guitar based with some kinda gloom in the themes.
  22. i'll have to second, third or fourth the jawbreaker, husker du, drag the river, ramones and descendents listings. i would go futher with neko case, but she hasn't made 5 studio albums yet as a solo artist (or with the boyfriends). lucero has had a good run as well.
  23. that's probably my issue as well. i also fail to scrobble often and my wife used to dominate the itunes.
