  1. Jesus, I'm such a space cadet sometimes. I meant the Jackson Browne album you just commented on, that nettles picked up, in that other thread. Yeah, Free to Go is great, too. Most of that album is great, and all of it's good.
  2. For Bird in Hand, Cincinnati Motel, or something else? That's great stuff. Actually, he reminds me a bit of that early Jackson Browne stuff you just picked up.
  3. "Hi, I'm Chris Hansen from Dateline. Why don't you take a seat right there? Go ahead, take a seat."
  4. I know he's been mentioned on this board frequently in his capacity as guitarist with Ryan Adams & the Cardinals ... and he even got some props in the Underrated Songwriters thread back in the winter ... but I think this guy deserves his own thread. I've been listening to Basement Dreams obsessively, especially No One Said A Word, the title track, Delaware Station, and Wisest of the Wise. He's got a number of albums with great, great tracks: Fade Away Diamond Time, Sun Rises Here, and Anytime Tomorrow have some of my favorites on them. Anybody here see him live as a headliner, or have
  5. If it's Hillary vs. Giuliani, Romney, or even Fred Thompson, I will hold my nose and vote for her. Then again, I still think there is a vast, right wing conspiracy.
  6. I'm gonna guess inbreeding has a lot to do with it.
  7. The 2008 election will be a choice between a douche and a turd sandwich.
  8. 8/31/99 - My first Wilco show, and an excellent ST-era soundboard. 7/4/01 - Grant Park intro to YHF material. Jay's last show. 11/3/02 - Best Wilco show I've seen, very long (27 songs, I think). Quality aud recording.
  9. I watched the whole thing. I grew up in the 70s and was a total Peanuts fanatic as a kid. I got all choked up at the end. It was a tearjerker, which I really didn't expect.
  10. I'd give my right arm to croak like Rod Stewart. No, wait, that doesn't work, does it?
  11. I prefer her in The Last Picture Show. That was her best outfit ever.
  12. I have never walked out of a movie, although there have been many times I probably should have. I saw the first Nightmare On Elm Street in the theater, and wanted to walk out, but I was too scared to move. Also, my friends would have ridiculed me mercilessly.
  13. I just now saw this response, two days later. I caught Missing Persons live in a small club around 1984, and they were great. It's hard to truly appreciate how good Terry Bozzio was on drums without seeing him in person. Un-freakin'-real.
  14. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Louie. Just listen to Absolutely Free and you'll feel better instantly.
  15. I'm guessing that was the great Neal Casal. Was he also the opening act?
  16. The author seemed to toy with the theme that the Dead weren't really hippies, but then dropped it (or, more likely, forgot about it). That's always fascinated me: that a San Francisco scene band, so totally associated with hippiedom, and followed around by many hippies, should be so un-hippielike. I think it might have been Mountain Girl who mentioned (in the Jerry bio) that the boys in the band were really more like a bunch of shit-talking pirates than hippies. They were very apolitical, and not really all that into the whole peace/love thing. In fact, I think Jerry threw Phil down a flight o
  17. Bruce Cockburn - Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws One of the best albums of the 70s, largely unheard in the States. Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel 3: Melt Avant garde fans think it's too pop, and pop fans think it's too avant garde. I think it's great. Rosanne Cash - Ten Song Demo One of these songs came up on my iPod yesterday, and today I have to listen to the whole thing. Essential, mournful Rosanne. Roxy Music - Country Life I don't know, this might be their best album overall, even though my favorite Roxy tracks are scattered elsewhere. Sin
  18. I couldn't get this to work yesterday, but I went on there today and watched a bunch of stuff. The 8-minute clip of Jon Stewart talking to the audience after 9/11 is poignant, something I'd never seen before. Recommended. Also, Stephen Colbert's "reporting" is excellent.
  19. Here's the setlist: No Depression New Madrid Chickamauga I think that would be it: three and out.
  20. Hi Bridget, hi Louie. Yeah, the Warren record has some great stuff on it. In fact, my only complaint is that there's too many demo versions of known songs and not enough previously unreleased songs. I could have lived happily with two discs' worth of "new" material. Maybe there's a part two in the offing. I'll definitely continue to support Wilco in the future, and I'll be there for their next show in my area. I just wish they had done something else musically. I actually like LNGCA and ITTTIG better than pretty much everything on the album, but that's still not saying much. Maybe the next one
  21. Many of you know I don't buy much brand new music -- hell, wait a year or two and you can buy Fox Confessor Brings the Flood or the new Dr. Dog for about six bucks on Amazon -- so when the end of the year gets closer, and everyone is ready to post their impressive "Best of 2007" lists, I have to sit on the sidelines like some sort of stone broke cyber-loser. Consequently, I'd like to invite people to post a list of stuff they've gotten this year, new or otherwise. Not too many 2007 releases made my list, but there are a couple on here. In no particular order: Beatles
  22. I would pay to see him in concert, even if he was just opening for Ryan. Not trying to hijack this thread ... I'm just sayin' ...
