  1. A similar thread has already been posted HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
  2. Flagstaff, Arizona Maybe not so much for the city, but for the area. You've got extinct volcanoes, a meteor crater, skiing, the Grand Canyon, and Sedona, all within an hour or so drive. Santa Fe, New Mexico Great food, great museums - I could never afford to live there.
  3. I had an opinion but my dog ate this thread.
  4. I wonder if it has something to do with this
  5. Saw Cloverfield this afternoon and I really really liked it - the wobbly-cam didn't bother me any & made for a claustrophobic, visceral experience. Sure, the 20-something characters are stereotypically vapid, but it's a monster movie and dammit, the monster's the star.
  6. I completely support a person's right to not vote because having the choice not to cast a vote is an equally important component of living in a democracy. However, If you choose not to vote then I think you forfeit the right to complain (or even comment) about the results of the election.
  7. Also, you can't forget about the albums that Cale's produced (Stooges, Modern Lovers, Patti Smith, etc.).
  8. no, but she sure is bouncy (ain't gravity cool?)
  9. The really scary thing? I remember we used to have a copy of this 45 - my mom got it as a local Baltimore radio station giveaway sometime in the late 60's-early 70's. I think we played it once & then chucked it into the back of an endtable drawer, where it probably still sits today.
  10. Seconded. And I predict that all of the recent seemingly-daily election polls will (again) be wrong & the media will carp about how the Iowa polls were flawed and skewed and they asked the wrong people who didn't vote anyway blah blah blah..., and then start breathlessly reporting on the election polls for the next round of primaries.
  11. This upsets me, too - one of the last mid-century jazz greats is gone... is anybody left?
  12. On a related note (yeah, pun intended) publication of Lynne Spears's parenting book is "delayed indefinitely": http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20167088,00.html
  13. YAY!!! Wilco doesn't hate the South after all - feel free to mosey further down the coast a bit for a Savannah show.
  14. Growing up in the 'burbs of Baltimore, we had Gino's
  15. Does anyone around here brine their turkey before cooking? I'm thinking of trying it this year but I don't know if it's worth the effort - it's supposed to keep the turkey from drying out. Then again I like to drown my turkey in gravy, so maybe the extra effort would be lost on me.
  16. On a related note, Linda Stein (former co-manager of the Ramones and ex-wife of Sire's Seymour Stein) was found murdered in her NYC apartment on Oct. 30. Wikipedia Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_S._Stein
  17. I can't stand much of his lyrics - I have this mental picture of him rifling through a 19th century dictionary looking for big words that no one use anymore.
  18. I've had this soundtracked in my head for the past week (with the hip-swiveling overhead hand claps, of course).
  19. I've always liked "Hymns to the Silence".
  20. I spent a day at Finster's Paradise Garden and studio as part of a road trip i took in 1987 - shot about 10 rolls of film of the garden & got a tour of his studio from Rev. Finster himself. Things I remember from his studio: A framed & signed photo of Gov. George Wallace, the walls and ceiling covered with letters, drawings, photos, etc. from fans including a drawing by Michael Stipe & autographed REM Rolling Stone cover (his comment on "the REMs": "They're good boys"). I'm glad I got to see his garden while it was still in one piece and in decent shape. At that time he was sellin
  21. The Beatles would be my favorite band ever if they were The Clash.
