  1. I could do without their name. Approve of their political activism though.
  2. Andrew! I saw you on the telecast! No I didn't, but wouldn't it have been fun if it were true! I did see areas that looked vaguely familiar, in your neighborhood I think. Who else is sick of the swimming coverage? You'd think that and gymnastics were the entire Olympics! I don't find swimming very interesting to watch.
  3. I just finished his collection of short stories, Rock Springs. Pretty good, if on the depressing side. He can turn a phrase, for sure. How is "Canada"?
  4. Sounds like I'll be missing that one. Maybe instead I should read the Mick Jagger biography my sister was telling me about, where the author makes reference to Mick's big brown eyes. Um, nope...they've been blue Mick's whole life. Actually I'm currently reading: Powerful stuff.
  5. How was the Simon Pegg book, Maudie? I get a kick out of him.
  6. How gratifying that her words will be read! Thank you, Mel. She was such a gifted writer.
  7. I haven't read anything else of hers, but that one is on my reading list. Good to hear that you're enjoying it!
  8. So I was looking for a good, fast-paced summer thriller at the library, and found this: The cover blurbs compare it to Michael Crichton's early books, and I can see that comparison. It moves at a very fast clip right from the outset, and would be a terrific book to have on a beach, or lounging lakeside, or to while away a long flight. The author has a degree in robotics, and it shows...his scenarios are credible and scary! Not for the faint of heart, this book. There are plenty of violent scenes between the robots and humans, but they are very well-written and not dragged out for gore effect.
  9. That's a very cool photo, Sarah!
  10. Every yard should have a few roses! The queen of flowers...and so nice to bring indoors. I have to recommend a favorite of mine, called "Ingrid Bergman". It's a very deep scarlet-red, with dark glossy leaves. The bud is long and stately, and opens to a huge, strong flower. Just gorgeous. And they last wonderfully as a cut flower, too.
  11. Very cool, Jeremy! I know how much work you've put into this.
  12. Right on schedule, the white peaches are ripening to bright yellow and pink and red.
  13. Thanks for the seating chart, Sonny. I hope to be at this show! A full moon, eh? I guess all those werewolf rumors surrounding the band will finally be, ah, "laid to rest".
  14. I'd go with Wilco's publishing rights. Those are clearly frog embryos.
  15. All of you Red Rockers, have an amazing time! I wish I were joining you. I'll be there in spirit though!
  16. Best wishes and a happy day to all you dads out there!
  17. This was adorable. Can you imagine how much mashed potatoes made by Paul McCartney would go for on the internet?
  18. http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/16/world/americas/canada-stage-collapse/index.html How horrible. One dead, several injured, but none is critical.
  19. Yay! Took him 25 minutes. http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/15/us/niagara-falls-tightrope-nik-wallenda/index.html?hpt=hp_c1 What a feel-good story. Amazing to see him moving step by steady step through the winds and the swirling mist!
