  1. Is anyone else disappointed that TCU and Boise State are meeting each other in the Fiesta Bowl? While I think it is awesome that two teams from non-automatic qualifying conferences were invited to BCS bowls, I would have preferred them meeting teams from the traditionally stronger conferences. TCU v Florida and Boise State v Cincy would have been awesome. And one final thought - Texas Tech will destroy Sparty in the Alamo Bowl.
  2. Sir, i doff my cap to your impeccable taste. A few weeks ago, Bells had an all-stout day at the Eccentric Cafe. There was a blend of Double Cream/Expidition aged in oak barrels that must be the equivalent to what the Vikings drink in Valhalla.
  3. Back in my undergrad days, I was in an Anthropology class with Harbaugh. From that limited contact, he came across as a very intelligent and hard working student. I am not suprised that he is having success at "The Michigan of the West". With that said, the chances of Harbaugh ever coaching at U of M are pretty slim. He had a lot of bad things to say about the program a few years ago. I think it would take a major shakeup in the AD administration before Jimmy Hardballs gets serious consideration if and when the head coaching position at U of M opens up. As an alum (and fan), the only go
  4. Maybe it didn't come across on TV, but from the third row behind the Worst Damned Band in the Land, it was an exciting and enjoyable game, even though our freshman messiah threw (and fumbled) the game away. At least Michigan beat what we now realize was a horrible ND team this year. Next year we have a winning record and a bowl game (Outback would be nice) and in 2011 we compete for the Big Ten championship . . . just in time for the Mayan Apocalypse. GO BLUE!!!! eta: The Buckeye fans who sat around us were actually quite civilized. And damn, Pryor is HUGE!!!! He may not make it in th
  5. Ok, I will give this a shot 1. I Must Be High (first song from the first album is a good starting point) 2. Box Full of Letters 3. Too Far Apart 4. Misunderstood 5. Outtasite (outtamind) 6. Red-eyed-->I Got You (at the end of the century) (c'mon, we all know you can't have one without the other) 7. Hotel Arizona 8. Via Chicago 9. Shot in the Arm 10. IATTBYH 11. PKB 12. Spiders 13. Handshake Drugs (live) 14. One Wing 15. Reservations Wow, that was harder than I thought. There are at least another 15-30 songs I want to put in, but I'm sticking to my initial gut reaction.
  6. I hate to admit this but I am looking forward to tonight's MSU-Gonzaga match-up. The one great thing about NCAA hoops is that teams have an incentive to schedule compelling out-of-conference games. This should be a good one. GO BLUE!!!! BEAT tOSU!!!!(after all, it is still football season)
  7. I may not be breaking any news here, but according to the Wharton website, Califone is opening in E. Lansing. My guess would be that they will open for most, if not the entire, tour. Wharton Center - Wilco
  8. Quick question about the venue - is it an old church? The pics that went along with the webcast had that kind of vibe to them. An awsome set list (and the webcast sound quality was A+++++++) in a real cool looking venue.
  9. Reading that Freep article makes it sound as if the practice time logs were required by the University, not the NCAA, and thus failing to file the logs probably is not, in and of its self, a violation of NCAA rules which would lead to sanctions. With that said, it doesn't look very good for RRod to drop that ball, espicially if St. Lloyd filed the same logs on a consistent and timely basis. Leave it to the Freep to bring this out during the week of The Game. And I agree that there needs to be a change in providing financial support beyond scholorships to student athletes, at least in the
  10. As my avatar indicates, it's that time of the year - MEEEEECHIGAN vs. THE ohio state university! Although the last 4 weeks has clearly demonstrated that Michigan's defense is about as stout as the French defenses in the spring of 1940, the offense has been clicking and the game is in A2 this year. I'm not making any predictions (other than a hell of a good time heckling the Alleged Best Damn Band in the Land) but it's Michigan's last chance to get that 6th win to qualify for the Pizza!Pizza! Bowl! GO BLUE!!!!! BEAT tOSU!!!!!
  11. As someone who spent the majority of the 80's at the University of Michigan, all of the choices represent the finest music being produced at the time. My vote ultimately went to the Femmes because let's face it, it wasn't a party until Blister in the Sun was spun. I don't know what it was about the VF's, but man, the ladies lost their inhibitions when they heard those tunes.
  12. I'm sure some (if not all) have been mentioned previously, but here it goes: 1. London Calling 2. Exile on Main Street 3. Houses of the Holy 4. Blonde on Blonde 5. Blood on the Tracks
  13. After the Friday night poker game, me and 3 buddies hit Bell's Eccentric Cafe to catch Sweet Japonik, a local band. They ended their first set with an epic cover of Kingpin. It may have been the two Java Stouts, but damn, you never have heard Kingpin until you have heard a Kalamazoo GR jam band do a 15 minute cover of a Wilco classic.
  14. I saw on ESPN this afternoon that the offending player has been suspended indefinitely. I'm sure there is a link to confirm this somewhere. Here is the link.
  15. What do you want to bet that the women on the next team to play New Mexico all have haircuts like Dorothy Hamill?
  16. Ahhhh, there is my problem, I didn't do the pre-order. Hopefully it will appear someday for the 99 cents.
  17. Ummm, does anyone know if there is an official way to obtain this track? I didn't see it on iTunes. FWIW, I bought (the album) on iTunes. Thanks.
  18. Not to beat a dead horse, but good lord, do the Lions suck. Not a good weekend for football fans in the Great Lakes State. Michigan losing to a horrible Illinois team, Goldy pulling one out against Sparty, and then the Rams getting their first win in a year against the Kitty-cats. And the Packers are still better off with Rodgers than Favre. Imagine how that game turns out if Brett had to stand in there behind that Packer's O-line.
  19. That is a pretty weird name for a kid. And add my vote for Handshake Drugs as my favorite live song, with Spiders a close second.
  20. Not that it matters, but so far I give the nod to The Eternal as the best of the year.
  21. Between Liam Finn's set and Wilco coming out, I told my buddy (who was seeing Wilco for the first time) how it would be cool if Wilco did a Stooges' cover in A2. I told him how UT did a cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog and how JT did it this spring at the Folk Festival in tribute to R. Ashton. When the lights went down and Wilco went into the opening of W(TS) my buddy looks at me and says "Stooges!!!" Until then, I never realized how similar the openings are between W(TS) and I Wanna Be Your Dog.
  22. You will know Wilco has made it big when you see Cherry showing up for shows. The dude knows how to dress, check out the Maple Leaf cuff links. The Wilcos ought to drop the Nudie suits and get a bunch of suits from Cherry's tailor.
