  1. Atlanta: I think this morning it was $3.29 for low grade.
  2. So, you think cds are going to make a comeback sometime in the next 10 years?
  3. I don't download because I don't like to listen to music on computers and I don't know how to get it from my computer to my stereo (I assume that is possible). Even if I did, I don't know where to find downloadable music. I don't like fiddling with computer gadgets. I can barely use a cell phone, so I wouldn't have the first idea of how to use an ipod. Fortunately, I spent my high school and college years buying loads of records. Mostly used. So many that 90% of my music collection is still pretty fresh to my ears. I get a lot of good stuff from the library. Sometimes I burn mysel
  4. Levy's are good straps. I have one, and it's quality. Mine's just a plain cloth strap in an army green-ish color. Do they make straps with vintage patterns? As for stap locks...check out this tip (I can vouch that this works like a dream...sorry, I know this is not really on topic): http://www.adamlevy.com/lessons/index.htm Lesson #5. Keep your guitar strap from falling off. Sure, you can buy hardware specifically designed to keep your strap locked on, but some such products can be a drag because you have to modify your guitar to install them. Thanks to guitar-tech extraordinaire K
  5. I decided to buy myself a new guitar for my birthday. I went through a period of coveting the Hagstrom Swede, but my local Hagstrom dealer doesn't carry that model. Somehow, I started liking Strats. I never really liked them all that much, but I think my recent (and ongoing) Richard Thompson craze/Fairport Convention Youtube addiciton swayed me. Anyway, I just wanted to get something fairly cheap to have as a backup for my Tele. I didn't have any luck with the used market, so I wound up doing what I said I'd never do again...Musician's Friend. I bought a Mexican made Fender Strat, whi
  6. Since this has turned into sort of a Grisman thread, some of you folks might enjoy the Garcia/Grisman dvd "Grateful Dawg: I need to pick up more of Grisman's records. All the one's I've heard have been excellent.
  7. John Jorgenson is supposed to be really great in this style. I haven't heard him, so I can't vouch. Maybe worth looking into. http://www.johnjorgenson.com/ Bireli Lagrene is another guy that is probably worth checking out: http://www.dreyfusrecords.com/discs_ns.php?a=5&l=0 I only know about these guys from reading guitar magazines, so I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for. Like you, I've really only listened to Reinhart and Grappeli.
  8. Yeah, he plays the real thing. Guitar Player did a big cover story on Frank and Dweezil last year. I guess that's one of the few pieces of equipment the Zappa family decided not to sell.
  9. I had to check when I got home yesterday. My copy of the Pere Ubu singles box is #691 of 3000.
  10. Oscar the Grouch "I Love Trash" 45. Rockafire Explosion "Dou You Love Me featuring Beach Bear" b/w "Birthday Medley" 45.
  11. I'll have to get back to you about which number I have. I ordered mine online...one of the first things I did when I got internet access. Most of their catalog was out of print at that time. I dubbed all of the singles onto a tape and played it all the time in the car, especially whenever I had a passenger. I don't have any of their LPs on vinyl, but my wife gave me (and herself) the "Datapanik in the Year Zero" box set for christmas the year it came out...late '90s, I guess.
  12. I'd love a new copy of "Nine to the Universe". My tape of that squeals when I play it. Do you know if those tunes are on any of the newer Hendrix releases? Back to rarities... I have the Hampton Grease Band lp. I've only seen it two other times. It's supposedly the second worst selling album in Columbia Records history. I suspect it's not as rare as some would like to think, though. Feelies "Crazy Rhythms" on white vinyl. I don't know if that's rare, but I've never seen another copy. Nels Cline Trio "Ground" triple 7". Roy Haynes "We Three" signed by Haynes. Pere Ubu "Hearthe
  13. I have a Turtles record that is shaped like a turtle, pressed on green vinyl and with a label on the sleeve from Turtles Records and Tapes.
  14. And onstage physical confrontations. And accidentally (or not?) setting dinner tables on fire. Great movie! The time warp "Like A Hurricane" is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a concert film/music doc. I've never seen "Rust...". I'm sure I'll like it.
  15. I saw Ace in concert a few weeks ago. I'm not a huge fan, but I thought he was excellent. I'm not sure what Zappa used to record those tunes, but his main guitar for concerts during that period was a customized Gibson SG. This one (you can see him playing it on the "Dub Room Special" dvd):
  16. Lindsay is great. Maybe he gets overlooked because most of those Fleetwood Mac songs are so vocally oriented? Maybe one of the things that make him so great is that you don't really notice him (unless you make a point to notice him) because his main concern is to serve the song rather than impress guitarists. He's kind of like Ringo in that way. I was listening to King Crimson's Larks Tongue in Aspic the other night. Robert Fripp's playing (and tone) on Easy Money, particularly his lengthy improvised solo in the middle, are incredible. I mentioned Ribot/Rain Dogs the other day. Today
  17. We have Jethro Tull to thank for that.
  18. Netflix doesn't have it? Wow, that sucks. I'm surprised. I saw it twice in the theater and I own the dvd. I guess I bought the dvd right after it came out (maybe five or six years ago?). I don't think I've ever watched the dvd, though. Been meaning to. I'm not able to burn dvds, but maybe I could send it to you. You can PM me about that if you like.
  19. I think "Year of the Horse" (the movie, not the album) would be a pretty cool introduction to NY & Crazy Horse.
  20. I like that one, too. Some of those songs are better than anything Neil's done since.
  21. Whoever the guy is from Clover who plays on Elvis Costello's "My Aim is True". Fantastic guitar sounds, and playing. Allison. Watching the Detectives. That album is overflowing with great guitar tones.
