Don't worry, Texas. Everything is under control. Watch this message from Trump, and you'll have no fear. http://www.politicususa.com/2017/08/24/trump-sends-texas-propaganda-video-hurricane-harvey-preparedness-tips.html

That Paul Ryan character sure knows how to make empty statements seem substantive. Until you apply critical thought, that is.
-
I guess Trump is worried about what Paul Ryan is going to say at his CNN Town Hall tonight. He announced a national address for 9 pm tonight, which was supposed to be the start time of the Town Hall. He's about to announce a military buildup in Afghanistan and Asia, but he'll probably begin by doing some preemptive damage control countering what he thinks Ryan is going to say.

Is this on Netflix or Amazon? I need to see this. I got to see BIlbo Walker in a couple years ago at Red's Juke Joint in Clarksdale. Inglorious Basterds. A film that soothed my nazi killing desires in a very satisfying way.

We're preparing to sell our house and move, so I loaned most of my guitar stuff to a friend for safe keeping while we go through this process. Maybe that'll trick my wife into thinking I have fewer instruments than I actually do and I'l be able to squeeze an SG and maybe even an ES335 into my collection. I guess I can dream.
-
If you buy a blank truss cover and take it to a trophy shop, or something like that, they could probably engrave Tweedy on it for a cheap price. On a different, but SG related note, my wife hates SGs (based on the way they look). I explaind to her that they're quite possibly the best sounding guitar ever made for rock music. She said "then why don't you buy one" and like a dumbass, I didn't. Instead, I said "I have a pile of guitars. I should probably figure out how to play at least one of them before getting any more." God, I'm an idiot.

Haha, when did that happen?

My Dead experience is limited to the '90s. Maybe it goes back to '88, or so. I have no doubt that prior to that, and particularly in the '70s, the scene lived up to the generally accepted stereotype of peaceful hippies grooving to music. So, yeah, I would agree that my original statement was a pretty gross overreach based on experiencing what pretty much everyone agrees were the worst years of the scene.

H = Hofner, no? Thanks for the interview link. I always enjoy hearing from John. I'll have to read that later.

You left out the funniest part. Some time before tweeting this he tweeted: "For every CEO that drops out of the Manufacturing Council, I have many to take their place." Apparently that wasn't quite true.

J, P, and 12 seems to indicate guitar and/or bass. I'm guessing 12 = 12 string guitar, and J and P might mean Fender Jazz Bass and Precision Bass. So I'm gonna guess John Stiratt. Does he play 12 string guitar on Misunderstood? Or a 12 string bass (such things do exist). There's also an H after one of the songs, and John pays a Hofner bass on some songs.

I apologize to everyone on this forum for antagonism on my part. This is a great place to discuss all sorts of things, and I don't want to upset that. But I'm not backing away from anything I've said about this film, or about my experiences dealing with deadheads, or being a deadhead.

Even with your caveat, that's a dickheaded thing to say. My comments about deadheads are based in my personal experiences knowing many of them and being one myself for a time. I'm aware they're generalizations. If what I said doesn't apply to you, let it bounce off your armor and then move on. I'm sure there's a Robert Hunter bible verse that applies to this exact scenario.

Silberman said he'd be able to relate to them because he deeply knows one aspect of their life. I get what he thinks he's saying, but none of us can know how people, or even deadheads specifically, 500 years from now will view the Dead, or anything else, so he's just spouting nonsense for the sake of romanticizing his passion for being a deadhead. Also, saying he can relate to a subculture in the distant future better than he can relate to people in general today...do you not see how that's a fraudulent comparison? This is not "informed perspective", it's a guess, so don't hold me to a high

I don't need or desire to prove my dead cred to you, and not knowing who the "celebrity" deadheads are is the world's biggest non-issue. Who cares about them? I brought up legitimate and reasonable criticisms of the film itself (and left out plenty more, like the way Hunter's lyrics are treated like bible verses...but also, in fairness, left out some things I did like, such as the Europe '72 footage, seeing the crew setting up the wall of sound, Barbara Meier's segment, and some other parts), which were met with rancor, instead of consideration, mostly if not entirely from you. I have gone

None of that is relevant to this discussion, except the part about musical impact (which was ignored in the film) but it does reveal that only praise for the Dead (and everything in the Dead galaxy) is welcome here, and anything less than praise will be met with lashing out against all other music. I have found that to be an utterly pathetic and predictable trait of deadheads, and I'm sorry to see it here on a WIlco based forum.

I don't really buy that. The Tom Petty three hour film was much more thorough, and covered a similar time span, so it can certainly be done. Same for the Rush documentary, or the Pearl Jam doc, although that one covers a shorter time span. It seemed to me that this film was saying "the band was a chaotic mess with a quality control problem, and that's exactly what this film will be." The nobody was the suspenders guy who said he would be able to relate to deadheads 500 years from now more than he can relate to people today (as if there aren't deadheads currently living for him to relate t

That was the only substantive thing I recall Franken saying. I like Franken, but a lot of his screen time was just him laughing, or saying "uuuuuh." I'll bet he said some interesting stuff that didn't make the film, and that's the director's fault, not Franken's.

I just got done watching Long Strange Trip. I was surprised by how much I didn't like it*, and it makes me feel bad and somewhat used to know that every time I saw the Dead, Jerry would have rather been on his couch living off Ben and Jerry's royalties. Not that it isn't obvious in hindsight that he was phoning it in for the entire '90s and much of the '80s. *Lots of meaningless footage of the guys mugging (while also claiming they hated the cameras) Totally useless interviews (Al Franken, some random nobody deadhead who got episode five almost entirely to himself, and others.) Glorificatio

Bret Busch w/ Tenement Halls. Bret has been a friend of mine for several years, and this is the release show for his first record. I'm really excited for him, and for this show, as he'll have a ten piece backing band that I'm sure will be phenomenal. http://nodepression.com/article/song-premiere-bret-busch-where-im-going In addition to that, Tenement Halls is Chris Lopez from the Rock*a*Teens. Another long-time Atlanta musician who I'm loosely associated with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CkWwpISHsM This show is sure to be a '90s Atlanta music scene reunion.

I recently watched I Called Him Morgan on Netflix. It's a documentary about the jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan and his wife, and the tragic end of his life. I had read about his death at some point so I knew where this story was going to go, but that didn't detract from the film. The story is engrossing, and the live music footage is terrific.

I think Pence's competence as a politician would result in more legislation making it to his desk and becoming law. Trump's ridiculous sideshow and constant lying has turned off enough (not really enough, in the general sense) from his own party that it has prevented any major legislation from getting there. And there's also the factor of Trump having no true political convictions, which might result in him occaisionally doing something good by accident. Whereas Pence isn't going to do anything good under any circumstances. But the point about handling a crisis is a good one, and I agree

Pence would be worse, so as much as I'd like to see Trump removed from office in disgrace, we're probably better off dealing with his incompetent buffoonery rather than having a competent but repulsive politician like Pence taking over.

I'm happy that I was wrong. I'm also happy that the GOP wasted the last decade+ on this failed effort, rather than pursuing other items on their agenda.

McCain says he won't vote for the bill in its current form. We all know that's a meaningless statement. He'll vote for the final bill, even if it's ten times worse than the worst version of the bill we've seen so far. The only thing maverick about this guy was his ushering in of the era of proud, arrogant incompetence with his choice of running mate. That's a legacy we'll be injured by for generations.
