I blame Trump's "I Alone" speech at the RNC for this.

Benmont Echoes sounds like the name of an upper middle class subdivision.

I wonder how many pages we'll be up to before someone admits they first heard In the Street on That '70s Show.

Same here. Long before. I heard Power Station's Get it On (Bang a Gong) before the T. Rex original.
-
I heard Ram Jam's Black Betty before the original, which Leadbelly usually gets credit for, but the original author may be lost to history.

Thinking about taking a trip to Colorado for this. It'd be a double bucket list event: visiting a state I've never been to, and seeing a show at Red Rocks. I've only seen TP once, and that was on the Echo tour.

I opened for Mike Watt a couple times. Only got to talk to him at any length once. He was nice, and had some funny stories, but I could tell he was tired from the gig so I didn't try to take up much of his time. His band were cool, and we hung out with them for a good while. They later accused us in their tour diary of drinking all their beer backstage, but that's really not true. We each drank A beer from the backstage stash, which we thought was being shared among the bands (and refilled if it all got drank). There definitely was beer left in the cooler when we loaded up and left. I s -
The Grateful Dead played this as an encore 3/4 of times I got to see them. Lazy and disappointing. Good song, but kinda lame in that context.

I f-ing LOVED Tin Machine so much that I made a stencil out of a cardboard box and spray painted their name on one of my t-shirts so I could wear it proudly to school on out-of-uniform day. Back then, there was no internet, so the only way to hear this song was to buy an obscure import 12". I still like most of their first album, but rarely listen to it. I also heard Tin Machine do Roxy Music's If There is Something looooooong before I ever heard any Roxy Music songs (with the possible exception of Love Is a Drug).

I heard Tin Machine do Maggie's Farm before Dylan.

Glad I got to see him as part of Ringo's band.

I heard the Subsonics version of Love Comes in Spurts before hearing the Richard Hell and the Voidoids original. Or actually, I guess the Voidoids version wasn't the first recording of it, although it is a Richard Hell song. I think the Neon Boys recorded it first, and the Heartbreakers did it, too, but I don't know if they recorded it.

I heard Cyndi Lauper doing Girls Just Want to Have Fun before the Robert Hazard original version. I heard Cyndi Lauper doing Money Changes Everything before the Brains original version.

I heard Walt Mink do Pink Moon before I ever even heard the name Nick Drake.

My older brother got Shout at the Devil (and a stereo) for Christmas the year it came out. I was 11 at the time. I had heard some Beatles by then, but not the White Album.

I didn't know RHCP did that one, but I heard Fishbone's version of it first.
