  1. Jeff playing a full Marshall stack on the Star Wars run seemed to be a statement in itself, but going from that to two tiny amps (to say nothing of the other guys' stripped down equipment) suggests that they've planned out a trajectory for their stagecraft for the Star Wars/Schmilco phase of their career. It's a little early to say this, but it'll be interesting to see if that's something they continue after the next album.
  2. Someone commented on his post claiming that their store has the vinyl in stock and available for purchase. What is that all about? A physical leak of an unapproved pressing? A lying record store owner trying to trick people into doing business with him?
  3. http://www.keeponkeepinon.com/ Keep On Keepin' On. I watched this yesterday and really enjoyed it.
  4. If this happened, they'd have to also add a percussionist. Spencer would also need to learn to play in more than one tempo and widen his dynamic range significantly. I don't mean to single out Spencer with this criticism, as I feel it applies to most drummers (including myself). Especially as compared to Glenn.
  5. I have no idea, but some that stand out are: 8/7/89 The Who - The Kids are Alright tour 1989. My first rock concert. 4th row. 11/29/93 Breeders - opening for Nirvana. Blew them off the stage. 1/29/90 Jack Bruce with Ginger Baker, Bernie Worrell, Blues Saraceno Sometime in 1993 - Walt Mink - One of the shortest, but most powerful sets I've ever seen 11/6/00 Shakti 7/23/89 Allman Brothers Band 20th Anniversary Tour Sometime in 1994 Mike Watt & the Crew of the Flying Saucer/Geraldine Fibbers - First time I ever saw Nels play. Another time in 1994 Polvo -
  6. Did any of y'all ever get to see Five Style? Leroy was the bassist in that band. Super talented group. EDIT: Just realized I made almost this exact post on this thread five years ago.
  7. I was unaware of these facts. It's certainly possible that these guys are just typical entitled douchebag alpha-jocks. Neither scenario would surprise me in the least. But knowing athletes were being removed from their flights home would certainly make me think twice about talking about being the victim of a crime (real or made up) at least until I was safely back home.
  8. My gut reaction is that this is Rio's attempt at damage control. it not only silences the people that were pulled from the airplane (even if only temporarily), but it will cause others to think twice about reporting criminal activity that is all but guaranteed to happen during the remainder of the games.

    Schmilco!

That sounds like a description of SBS to me.
  10. I got to see him open for Pharoah Sanders in 1996. Great double bill. He had lots of good records under his own name, and plenty of great stuff as a sideman. Eric Dolphy's Out to Lunch is, in my opinion, is one of the pinnacles of recorded music, and Hutcherson's wonderful and unique playing on it plays a huge role in why it's so great.
  11. I saw a picture of Richard hanging out with Billy Squier at last night's show.
  12. Aaaaalmost. The top rim extends a little wider, and has a slightly more pronounced curve on Tweedy's glasses compared to the DITA's. Extremely similar, and maybe that is the same frame, just a slightly tweaked version, but it's not exact.

I don't think Tweedy was joking when he said "this guitar has songs in it." Guitarists say that often, and they mean it literally.
  14. In light of Jeff Tweedy's glowing appraisal of Big Thief, I would expect them to be on the bill.
  15. They're back together? I saw them in their heyday, and it was fun. The songs on their first album were supposed to be the second Breeders album, but Tonya left the band before that could happen. Tonight I'll be seeing W8ting 4 UFOs

    Schmilco!

Haven't they already abandoned the Star Wars setlist?
  17. Is this the set that caused Bill Graham to chew out Hendrix for being all flash? http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/concerts-that-changed-rock-jimi-hendrix-and-the-band-of-gypsies-at-the-fillmore-east-new-york-19870604 "Graham says that Hendrix's first set on the second night was in fact a disappointing reversion to his showbiz stunts. When Hendrix asked him during intermission what he thought of the set, Graham was brutally frank. "I said, 'You're Jimi Hendrix, and anything you do is taken as gospel because of who you are,'" says Graham. "'In the first show, you humped the guitar, you p

  19. I don't see a problem with the killer's father attending the rally. What am I missing?
  20. Jim Henson - A Biography. I'm really enjoying this one. Biographies can sometimes be cold and academic, but this one ha s a flow I'm really enjoying.
  21. The first gold medal won by the USA was for shooting.
  22. I don't know about "best" but I always enjoyed the bonus CDs that came out with Pixies and Breeders albums. I had the Monkey Gone to Heaven EP before I had Doolittle, so to me, Manta Ray, Dance the Manta Ray, and Weird at My School are all essential Pixies songs.
