  1. Just so you all know, I am drinking a latte, fondling my copy of Gibbons' The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, which I have just for show, thinking about how smart I am and checking to see when Synecdoche comes out on DVD.
  2. Fuck you, man. I am intellectually inclined and I liked this movie. Eat me.
  3. I could be wrong, but I think the Koyanisqaatsi soundtrack is all the Philip Glass most people, me included, really need.
  4. Shit, according to a story in the NYT, she might want to be President Kirsten.
  5. A pic I took of Kirsten when she came to Hyde Park in '07.
  6. Happy happy! Hope somebody spins ya a good yarn!
  7. Just got back from The Wrestler, which was good, but not great. Also a cautionary tale about where you can end up if you can't let go of the '80s.
  8. My take on it is steroids violate the Protestant work ethic, providing a chemical short cut to what should only be attained by hours and hours of grueling work and the commitment and determination that goes with it. To take steroids is to try to get around that work, and that is why I think people have a visceral distaste for them and those who take them.
  9. It is hard for me to maintain my, uhh, journalistic objectivity around her. Word around here is she was the fallback if something happened with Caroline Kennedy, and lo and behold, something did. I will miss being able to see here at the local supermarket now and again, but if you want to do her in the worst and best ways you love someone, you have to set them free.

  11. Synecdoche blew my fucking mind. I can understand why many thought it an absurd piece of crap, but it was like Kaufman knew the secret code to everything going on in my own personal Area 51. I left that movie equally terrified of life and death.
  12. Libertarians lost the argument about how this country should be run more than 200 years ago. It's kind of like belonging to the gym - if you don't want to pay the gym fees, you don't get to work out at the gym. If you don't want to pay taxes, please stay off the roads and don't breathe any of the air or drink any of the water protected by government regulations.

  14. The office deserves respect, sure. G.W. Bush? I don't know - he REALLY made a mess of it. Often, leaders who fuck up as badly as he did end up leaving a lot less gently than he did.
  15. I think it is along the line of the same, easily-misinterpreted sense of irony expressed by Springsteen in "Born in the U.S.A."
  16. Is the Cardinals making the Super Bowl referenced by Nostradamus or Cayce as a sign of Armagideon time?
  17. Dude, I respect what you have done for our community, but I am not a troll. (I am more of an owlbear or perhaps a gelatinous cube.) I am just a guy who has not jumped on a bandwagon, and I am not ashamed to say so. Trust me, no amount of typey-type-type by anyone who is not Lester Bangs is going to convince me to like music I don't like.
