  1. Thanks for the mixes, everybody. They got a lot of play this year.
  2. Yes. The Yanks have done some stupid things with their riches in the past, but they got the blue-chippiest of blue-chippers in Teixeira and two proven pitchers. It may well not all work out - is Girardi the leader that Torre is? How much does Jeter have left? - but they have prepared themselves the best they can. AL East should be a fantastic division next year. Boston better find another terror to put in Ramirez's place or it will be tough sledding for Ortiz.
  3. You might be waitin' a while. The Bombers are loaded for bear. Hopefully, all the Red Sox fans will enjoy their return to underdog status.
  4. That's pretty lazy on the part of whomever is in charge of your municipality. Go to a town board meeting and give them what for and tell them what a no-effort POS the assessor is.
  5. If there was no or not as much money in baseball as there is and always has been, we would have to nostalgicize over games we see in fields behind gas stations starring local dudes. 11. Have an awesome birthday, my friend, and thanks for all that you do.
  12. From the Washington Post. A Progressive Case for Rick Warren By Geoffrey Garin Friday, December 19, 2008; 4:13 PM Many of Barack Obama's progressive supporters feel let down by his choice of Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the Inaugural. I understand why, but here's a different way to look at it. The real story here is not that President-elect Obama has somehow blessed Rick Warren's views on abortion or gay rights, but that one of America's leading evangelical pastors has decided to bless the presidency of someone who is strongly pro-choice and committed to the civil rights of
  13. Oddly, I have never heard of any being offered.
  14. We only have Dock's word for it, as related in the book "Dock Ellis in the Country of Baseball" by Donald Hall, which is really good, btw, and in later sources. Dock walked eight and hit a batter that day. RIP, Dock.
  15. IHVH decided to throw this holiday to the Southern Hemisphere, where Dec. 25 is really nice. He moves in mysterious ways.
  16. And it ain't like baseball team owners are repositories of humility and self-sacrifice either.
  17. I was thinking of you when I almost careened into a snowplow on my way home.
  18. You don't like capitalism, move to North Korea. Plenty of snow there.
  19. John Henry says Boston "will not be a factor" in race for Teixera.
  20. Aww. She was a good actress. I am glad she got to be the computer one last time.
  21. Maybe he is Adam Smith posting from the next world.
