  1. http://growingbolder.com/media/Entertainme...ils-127764.html found this cool video, roger plays a few songs while riding the train with his wife. Thought with all the byrds talk around here some would enjoy. You also get to find out what a rich bastard he is as well.
  2. A friend of mine (from jersey as well) was telling me how good this was. I would recommend the garica/grisman as well.
  3. only gave evil urges one spin so far but it wasn't nearly as bad as I was fore-warned. Personally I can't even listen to take from SWXW the vocals are fucked from the get go. I liked the lack of re-verb as well, frankly I wish JIm would stop using it all the time.
  4. Ayers and Dohran actually came to my college last year for a showing of the weather underground documentary. It seemed like they cooled out quite a bit since their "glory days". I highly recommend the doc.
  5. Caught Ralph Nader in Chicago last night. Great speech. Spoke mostly to the issue of regaining power from the corporations and community organization. If your at all intrested his running mate (Matt Gonzalez) was on democracy now this morning, i haven't had a chance to listen yet but here is the link: http://www.democracynow.org/2008/4/17/nade...att_gonzalez_on ETA: Thought I should also mention that he spoke quite a bit about solar power and marketing to children. When i came home i read up on Ralph's Commercial Alert organization which can be found here http://www.commerciala
  6. I saw him on that tour as well at Bonnaroo. Great record. His solo material really is great is a shame it doesn't get more notice. in your mind. there are many folks here who would rather see many of these artists then what lolla has to offer.
  7. I really hope this means Daivd Byrne is going on tour.
  8. Sure but not when that gives more room for corporation to be committing wrongs; especially when some of these companies are stronger some nations.
  9. What part of him is a joke? His past accomplishments? Or that he is taking a stance on things that neither the democrats or republicans are taking? Look at the policies that Clinton/McCain/Obama are pushing their not all that different. Nobody is willing take a stand against corporate america which is buying out our governments interests. What is funny about that? Since we supposedly live in a democracy the forums should be open, but there not. We've been left with two parties taking the country down similar roads (mainly because the funding all coming from the same places) on top of that
  10. I don't know how many people checking this thread are in Chicago but Ralph Nader is going to speaking at the Apollo Theatre on 4/16 at 7 (there will be a book signing at 6). If your interested in other options and helping fuel a more open political game in the united states I highly suggest you attend. And if your voting you should really check out votenader.org at least check out http://www.votenader.org/issues/ to see where he stands and his main concerns over what the democrats and republicans aren't addressing. One of the most interesting issues is repealing the taft/ ha
  11. You hit the hammer to the nail on your doors description. Which byrds records do you have? Knowing your love of the dead I'm suprised you don't like Sweetheart of the Rodeo or 5D
  12. Well I don't know much of the old stuff outside of what you've mentioned (guess I'm not an expert). But I would recommend a newer Gypsy jazz group "Hot Club Of Detroit" sure they play most of the standards but man do these guys swing. I think I remember reading your also a chicago local so you MUST go see Alfonso Pontecilli at the Green Mill, its only six bucks and I'm pretty sure its every wed.; if your digging the django this is where youve got to go.
  13. its not the mike watt lineup is it? I love me some Banyan
  14. I don't know if you guys saw the langerado show but this is a different band then the one you saw at the fillmore lammy. The kid is getting comfortable and molitz has staked his ground. And Larry is larry. I think youd be pleasantly surprised if you check them out now. Plus Levon Helm, its gonna be a great tour. I just wish Chicago wasn't going to be my only show. Hopefully I can get a ride to summerfest. And if you guys haven't herd of Penn's Peak you should all look it up on the net one of the coolest venues out there. Its up on a mountain and is basically a giant log cabin. They
  15. Yeah, although I'd love to see them I think this is a bit of a scam to help Sly get some more money for nose candy.
  16. I usually do the same bust out a radiohead album around 8 or 9, keep it acoustic during the day.
  17. Phil Lesh (of the grateful dead) does some awesome ryan adams covers, especailly when he has Joan Osborne singing lead. I caught them debut When the stars go blue, its prutty awesome ETA: finally watched this video, the funniest part is there is a 14 page thread about it over at the wilco board, oh wait i'm on the wilco board. You people taking this seriously need to lighten up.
  18. Fuck you too, (just kidding) I just got back the the philly area for the week and I've got all my friends telling me they saw levon at the e-factory. I've been dyeing to see helm and would have rescheduled my trip home for there. I'm sure it fucking awesome. Thanks for reminding me about my unfound promises http://www.sendspace.com/file/kv969l
  19. you got that one right on the money. As everyone else said The Band is great driving music, I love the bunea vista social club album as well as any dead show. I think it all depends on were your driving, I try to let the road dictate the tunes. Matching music with a beautiful scenery (and a joint) is always one of my favorites. I do a lot of driving to remote areas and theres nothing better then having the road to yourself and your tunes cranked.
  20. got to love those let the good times roll openers.
  21. I started watching this last week and have only seen the first two parts but, who died and made wynton marsaslis the authority on jazz?
  22. What didn't you like about it? I thought it seemed pretty honest (in terms of corresponding with McNalley's book which I guess could be a skewed perspective). He may not be the greatest writer but there are some great stories in there. Mind you I read it when it came out but i think I remember some lame humor, but its phil so its expected.
  23. That reminds me of a show I have its Rick and Richard at a place called the Bijou Cafe in Philly in 1980. The person who sent me it claims the place was empty as well. Although Richard and rick are drunk its still an awesome tape. They do a great Unfaithful Servant with just Richard on piano and rick sining his heart out (not always in key) off mic. I'll post that clip later tonight (if i forget and anyone really wants to hear it shoot me a pm).
