  1. I can see that. I still think the soccer situation is a little worse, if only because it was the last play of the game in a World Cup quarterfinal. Obviously, if the Ghana player had made the free kick, the point would be moot, but he didn't so it's not. I really don't care that much about it, but I feel bad for Ghana. I disagree with bobbob that it was a smart play because I believe how you win is as important as whether you win, and that was a bad, bad way to win.
  2. The man played the ball from inside the goal. It would have gone in had he not played it with his hand.
  3. You say leaning into a pitch is not comparable to players attempting to bend the rules to their advantage in soccer, and then you suggest that a defensive player playing the would-be game-winning goal in a World Cup quarterfinal on the goal line with his hand is comparable to a player tackling a defensive end going for a sack. You're rationalizing.
  4. No, it's pretty possible to determine. The penalty kick was the final play of the game. If it had gone in, the game would have ended then. Thus, the penalty happened within a minute of when the referee would have blown the whistle. Had Uruguay not played the ball illegally to stop the would-be goal, the odds they would have scored in the last :30 of stoppage time remaining are vanishingly small. Had the initial ball gone in the goal, Ghana would have won. I'm not complaining about anything.
  5. If Uruguay had not cheated, they would have lost. They had the opportunity to win because they cheated, which is not the same as winning because they cheated, but it's close.
  6. Oh man. I went crazy and exchanged two CO2 cylinders. I think I'm done for the day.
  7. I'm planning a trip to Williams Sonoma to exchange a CO2 cartridge.
  8. When do they fire their entire strength and conditioning team?
  9. Actually, in this case, I think both sides are made up of a lot of the same people.
  10. I am spending some company time and resources watching it on espn3.
  11. What would have been the acceptable way to discipline a general who publicly insults the President and Vice President - never mind participating in insubordination with his staff in the presence of a reporter?
  12. Not according to this (admittedly unsourced) article and the analysts (Alexi Lalas and Steve McManaman, I think) discussing the situation on ESPN during England-Algeria. Total goals follows goals differential, and then they draw lots if they remain tied.
  13. It's total goals scored, I believe, and the U.S. currently has the edge on England there.

  15. Neither truth nor reality are at odds with me, at least with regard to my recent participation in this thread.
  16. Calm down, Chuck. Go back and read a bit of the thread from the beginning.
  17. You have 543 posts. I have responded to three(?) of them. What you should be more extra carefuller with is your math. Maybe you forgot to carry the one or something.
  18. While your order is correct, there's a bunch of stuff that doesn't belong in there. You also have things in the right order, but you're missing a few important pieces. Look up a couple inches.
  19. Not too long ago, I saw a kid wearing Spandex running pants pulled down to reveal his entire boxer-shorted ass. It is among the most ridiculous conscious fashion choices I have ever seen.
  20. It's somebody's hipster driving cap.
  21. I bet the transition from glass to plastic bottles also was a factor in the shrinking of the crates.
