Walken was the definitive highlight for me: it really rocks and they just sounded tight. I have to admit that I am a little confused as to why Wilco does not play more songs from their other records; they have so many great songs to choose from (how about Always in Love, Summerteeth or She's a Jar, opposed to shot in the arm?). I can't let that detract from what a great show it was: but so many great songs to be played from their catalog. Jeff's comments about what a beautiful idyllic setting it was and therefore he would play sad songs for irony: funny. The thing with the mustaches that was funny: Jeff was playing front and center and totally focused on the crowd, so when he turns around and looks at the band, he was a bit taken aback: all of these Magnum PI's. It felt more like a joke on him. Also, the Bjorn headband on Jeff who refuses to remove his green jacket and it felt like 100 degrees. "Great hair": I'm not only a client, but the president! Anybody see the Jim Morrison resemblance? I have never seen Wilco so relaxed and animated: Jeff so talkative: I broke my shin bone!

Hey Paul..its Sam, the kid next to you last night! Anyways..I just joined Via Chicago and decided posting about last nights show would be a good first thing to do. FLorence Mass was an awesome show with some interesting moments..."No sir, we don't have any marijuana, that would be illegal"- Jeff. It was great!

john during the AD set: "everyone be nice to glenn about his facial hair, he needs our support, he's feeling sensitive about it. I dont know why - its cool to look like a policeman from tiajuana."

also... the guy who yelled out "Richie Tenenbaum!!!" when jeff put on the headband wasn't too far off... :lol

this was in the just a fan thread, but someone already has a video clip of part of 'tonight, lets fight' from the show up on youtube:

and the end of the jam on impossible germany:

1. Impossible Germany with the solo back at the end. I liked this version better.

2. Let's Fight. Never heard it, but I hope it's all good.

3. Hesitating Beauty, Wishful Thinking.

4. Hummingbird ending the main set. They've done this many a time, and I'm beginning to like it now.

5. Far, Far Away closer. By far, the best thing ever.

Best setlist thus far in the tour. And nice to know the AD opened. Excellence! I hope someone caught their set also... :)

I'm wondering if Jeff mentioned if the road crew chose the set list being the last show of the tour.

It has become somewhat of a tradition with Wilco. I'm gonna need to start making it a point to road trip for the last show of the tour.

Yeah at the end of the show they gave credit to all the roadies who helped them along. It was really great, Mikeal tried to get Jason their tour manager to come out on stage but Jason wouldnt budge...it was great.

Great show! Third time seeing Wilco. Other times were at BU and Brown. This show was better setlist wise and atmosphere was fantastic. I'm from Holyoke so the Pines is of familiar ground. Always great to see your favorite band at your favorite venue. Can't wait for the tapes to come out. :)

sadly, no shots of Glenn's mustache --- it may not have been visible in a photo anyway, it's a starter. :lol

Autumn Defense was wonderful; what a bonus. John and Pat sing beautifully together. :wub

I was right up front behind Waldo. They were absolutely fanfuckingtastic.

Unfortunately, I got so sick from the heat (and hunger, I guess) that I had to bail at 9.

(You know you're sick when you can drag yourself away from the front of the stage

at a Wilco show. :yucky :no

and I missed Hesitating Beauty. :cryin

I can state conclusively that I sweat more than Glenn last night.

I missed MeDave and Peel'n'Al??

I thought the venue was gorgeous. A guy outside told me when other acts

had appeared there (he mentioned Dylan) they cleared everyone out of the park

so no one would get a free listen. :punch

That is one beautiful and busy park -- pedal boats, water spray park, tennis courts, big fields,

a kiddy choo-choo that circled the park, gardens. Very lovely -- kudos to the

town of Florence.

Man, was that amazing. Absolutely the best show, Wilco or otherwise, that I've ever attended or ever will attend. I was right in front of the stage near Pat and my friends and I tried to give him a couple CD's of our band (cough www.myspace.com/gearsmusic cough), and although he kindly told us to put them down next to his pedals, we didn't see them get picked up by anyone. Oh well...

Here are the links for a bunch of the pictures that I took (there are a few awesome ones of Pat):

After listening to Wilco since my freshman year of college (bought Being There in '96), I finally saw them last night. (I also saw Tweedy in November at the Egg in Albany -- anyone tape that, by the way? -- and both were amazing experiences). First time at the Pines, as well. We BBQ'd all afternoon and had a sick game of Taboo (final score: 43-41, we lost). Headed into the surprisingly small and GORGEOUS venue at 5:40 and staked out a spot in front of Nels (2 "rows" of people behind the Pecan Pie girl).

Proceeded to kick myself repeatedly and often for not bringing my camera.

Autumn Defense was great. Really attentive crowd. That was an awesome thing to behold.

Wilco blew me away. Highlights: Late Greats, Hell is Chrome, Impossible Germany, Walken, Hummingbird (mic stand problems led to Tweedy on the edge of the crowd), Misunderstood, Spiders, and Kingpin.

Can't wait to see them again. More than worth the 4 hours of driving.

Tapers?

I saw one (maybe two, not sure if that guy just switched spots).

Not much more to add, just that it was well worth the trip from Jersey. My 8th time seeing this line-up, and they simply get better and better each time. Far, Far Away was the perfect closer :music . I had a bit of an out of body experience during that one (and I was stone-cold sober).

Kudos to Paul for accepting Jeff's request to hop on stage. You definitely deserve it :thumbup . Thanks again for all your great reviews.

Nice pics Viatroy. I must have been right next to you. I think I may have held your spot one time, but I didn't do a very good job. Hope you're feeling better.

Despite the heat, definitely one of my top show experiences ever. Great venue, great people, great vibes all around.

Thanks again Wilco :worship .

Oh yeah, Go Yankees !!!!

Did anyone else notice how all of the male event staff were incredibly rude assholes, half of which looked like they had been picked up on the streets an hour before the show? My friends and I went up through the woods during Wilco's soundcheck and stood perpendicular to the stage at the fence just watching (not yelling, making noise, trying to climb over, etc.), and some jerk with five ear piercings sneared, "You guys better get the f*** out of here or the guards will kick you out of the park." We had seen a woman sitting in the food tent who smiled at us and another Wilco-related gent who paid no mind, but this guy (with a Nine Inch Nails shirt to boot) takes it upon himself to give three teenagers crap.

Come on, it's a God damn Wilco show!

The security guards were your typical "Northampton" guys. Looks like crap and has an attitude. The guy with the orange NIN shirt was the head of security. He did seem like a dick but then again he was only doing his job, but a better a respond to you guys should of been had.
