I would recommend the songs 'Little Egypt', 'Down in Mexico', and 'Smokey Joe's Cafe'. There fantastic!
cryptique
Dion - "Runaround Sue"The Marathons - "Peanut Butter"Del Shannon - "Runaway" And honestly, you could do worse than just getting the American Graffiti soundtrack. Lots of great stuff on there. Gloria (Shadow of the Night)The Shadows of Knight version is OK, but you should get the original Them track.

yermom
I'm listening to my Norton reissue rekkid of The Sonics' "Here are the Sonics!!!" just now. It's some really great 60s garage stuff. The Wiki says Jimi was influenced by them but I feel that's only a small fragment in the massive pile of reasons to listen to them. The album has "Good Golly Miss Molly" and "Have Love Will Travel" on it but I highly recommend "Strychnine." It's pure rocking awesomeness.
DawgSong
go country, back when it was country... Riley although 70's grab some Hank Snow, Marty Robbins "White Sport Coat", Roger Miller. then drift to Ol Blue Eyes and The Rat Pack

LouieB
Anything by The Fugs or The Holy Modal Rounders. Not exactly oldies, but great stuff....(well old, but not oldies...) The sad part about this conversation is I remember many of these when they weren't oldies, but were newies..... LouieB
ction
I could literally list hundreds of songs, but I'm way too lazy. One that's fairly unknown, though, is The Choir's "It's Cold Outside". Great, great song.
quarter23cd
I think it is interesting how "oldies" radio has now incorporated the 60s and 70s. When I was growing up there was a clear cutoff point where "oldies" stopped and "classic rock" began (I'm not quite old enough for any of them to have been "newies" for me). But it is interesting to notice the shift...

Remember when you had to put this thing in a 45 to be able to play it? I said this to my wife the other night, who is only 2 years younger than me, and she looked at me as if I was deranged.
