Littlebear
I'll start with my latest great surprise : Emily Haines & the Skeletons : Knives Don't Have Your Back It's beautiful, it's Emily's first solo project - she's from the Metric band ("Dead Disco", anyone knows that "hit"?) otherwise, the albums of Kristin Hersh, Eleni Mandell, Patty Griffin are especially good. and a French one : Daphn
Kalle
I'm pretty sure all of would recommend The National - Boxer to anyone. But for myself I really enjoyed the Feist, Battles, Great Lake Swimmers, New Pornos and Spoon quite a bit as well.

blasting_fonda
French Saddle Creek band The Berg Sans Nipple just released 'Along the Quay' and it's unbelievable, if you like dance music. It's so chill. Also, the Field is excellent, God Save the Clientele, Feist's new album, and to cap it off, give the new Bright Eyes a try. It's not half bad.
HighFives
Angels of Light - We Are Him. its not out yet but it leaked and it is berry good.
tongue-tied
deerhoof - 'friend opportunity' is the only album that matters. its very good, anyway.
Welsh Rich
Battles - Mirrored... Still the best thing I've heard all year, followed (very, very closely) by The National - Boxer. I've liked a lot of other stuff this year, but those two records are dominating my ipod at the moment.

Derek
Sky Blue Sky is so far my favorite album of the year, and I recommend it to everybody, and it will probably stay my #1 unless Radiohead's album is amazing or Dave Matthews Band pulls out all the stops and drops an incredible one. Rush - Snakes and Arrows and Modest Mouse - We Were Dead... are my other 2 favorite albums of the year.

Mystik Spiral
wow. When do you find time to like wash the dishes? precisely why i DO have a sink full of dirty dishes, a messy bathroom and a layer of dust on all my furniture... not to mention a credit card bill that's getting out of hand... insound sure loves me, though. Littlebear
Lots of you mention The National. I haven't heard the new album, but I must say I didn't like Alligator. Not that it was bad, I'm even sure it's good, but it's really not my kind of music. It reminds me too much of that 80s new wave that bored me as a teenager. U2, The Smiths, REM, The Go-Betweens, etc Long live the Cramps!

Littlebear
(emphasis mine) So, why bother to post? You never know, someone could tell me that the new album is totally different from Alligator. And it may also be interesting to see that *not everybody* digs the band.
