I gave up on waiting for proper releases.

I'll download the leak, which are generally of poor quality and listen to that until I decide if I want to make the purchase. Regardless of whether I eventually purchase the album or not, I almost always purge the leaked version.

I don't listen to leaks. I also work at a college radio station, so I do get to listen to promos (at least of some stuff) before the release date...just as part of my job.

Usually, if I don't have a copy at the station to listen to a bit, I'll just sort of sift around and see what the general opinion on an album is and then maybe read some reviews and buy it based on that. There's always misses, but I don't mind.

I have nothing against listening early. If I like it, I'll buy it...if I don't, it is immediately banned for being a waste of disk space.

Overall, I agree with the "thank goodness for leaks" mentality. It amazes me to think of how many cds I bought in my younger days purely on the basis of having a cool-sounding band name, song titles, or cover art. Yeah, I bought a lot of shit records back in the day. :P

Sometimes I'll buy said album, if it's really good and they offer bonus tracks or something. If not I might just go to the band's show and buy some merch, which in my mind is better than buying the album from a store anyway.

I like to preview, but usually with things I'm really looking forward to. I always buy though, for me the record or cd is just what I prefer, long live the record stores.

Plus every album has to pass the drive test, a hallowed piece of road, where i clear my mind and let it all begin.

i don't listen to leaks. the only exception being the SBS leak. i purchased the CD/DVD of SBS on it's release date. i already buy everything wilco related anyway.

i'm pretty set in my listening habits at my age and usually only purchase music from a band i'm already a fan of. i've been burned way too many times in my younger years by two good songs packaged with 10 more songs of "filler" by bands i knew little of. i was a regular at the local used cd store unloading those. those stores are gone now and to avoid being stuck with extra "coasters" my new music buying habits have sharply declined. message boards such as VC do help me in making new music decisions. i still feel it is wrong to dl tunes not purchased and as a result, i'm very slow to warm to anything not already in my existing band rotation.

I try to buy albums that I like, but I don't always have the money to. I do download leaks quite often, though, and I look forward to them. I like hearing an album without having an opinion on it already.

Most of my downloading anymore consists of searching the internet for live recordings of bands that are no longer together. Such is the state of my music collection these days. :lol

I'd like to pretend there was some great ethical reason behind my decline in album-downloads, but really its mostly that I don't have much time to spend listening these days and 80% of the stuff I've dl'd in recent years turned out not to really move me, anyway. Oh well.

I seldom seek out leaks. The few occasions I have were for bands that I really dig and wanted to see what was coming out next. I almost always end up buying the CD upon release as I prefer getting the music in lossless form with all the artwork, plus I like to support artists I like.

I've only listened to leaked albums of artists that I pretty much have their entire catalog already. If I'm interested in finding out whether or not I might be into a band, I'll usually track down a live recording.

I just don't have the time anymore to listen to all my music, let alone new music. I've had the new Rilo Kiley and New Pornographers' leaked albums for several weeks now and I still haven't found time to listen to them.

not the 'what i listen to on the toilet' thread i was expecting.

in VC tradition, aren't you supposed to post some humoursly apt picture when making a comment like that? Then we post these praying 'we are not worthy' emoticons and the thread goes on for 45 more pages?

sheesh, get with the program.

I once almost choked on a leek. Because they are layered, I kept pulling layers out of my throat, but couldn't get at the whole thing. My family still laugh about it whenever everyone gets together for a meal, about how funny it was that I nearly died. Apparently I looked so funny pulling it out.

As for music leaks, I pretty much download everything before I buy it, but if I like it I always buy a cd, and if I don't like it I just delete it.

i would probably have laughed too. as would my family... maybe our families should get together. but probably not.

yup. i'm done with the days of spending money on something that i haven't heard. there's too much great stuff out there to waste money on shit.
