Wilco Digging Into Catalog For Chicago Run

Wilco

December 10, 2007, 11:30 AM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Wilco will explore the "dusty corners" of its back catalog during a five-night run at Chicago's Riviera Theatre in February. Shows are set for Feb. 15-16 and 18-20 and will feature what the band's spokesperson describes as a "distinct, one-of-a-kind set list each night."

"Over the five nights, we will attempt the 'complete Wilco' and try to clear out the dusty corners of the catalog that we haven't attended to in a while," frontman Jeff Tweedy says.

"I would hate to discredit any of the earlier lineups, because that had a thing that made it special too," drummer Glenn Kotche told Billboard earlier this year. "But I do love the versatility of this lineup. Everyone has their own sound and personality."

The Chicago stand will serve as the kickoff for a short North American tour, which runs through March 9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Meanwhile, Wilco's "Sky Blue Sky" was nominated for a best rock album Grammy last week. Previously, the band's "A Ghost Is Born" won best alternative rock album and best recording package at the 2004 ceremony.

Here are Wilco's tour dates:

Feb. 15-16, 18-20: Chicago (Riviera Theatre)

Feb. 22: Cleveland (Lakewood Civic Auditorium)

Feb. 23: Philadelphia (Tower Theatre)

Feb. 24: New Haven, Conn. (Schubert Theatre)

March 2: Nashville (Ryman Auditorium)

March 3: Mobile, Ala. (Civic Center)

March 4-5: New Orleans (Tipitina's)

March 7: Houston (Verizon Theatre)

March 8: Tulsa, Okla. (Cain's Ballroom)

March 9: Des Moines, Iowa (Val Air Ballroom)

They have gotten taller

There's a guy I always see around campus who looks exactly like a younger version of John... I do a double take every time I see him, it freaks me out. I found we had a mutual friend and made her introduce us solely because of the resemblance. :flirt

Any speculation on how much the 5-night package might cost?

Good question. I would assume there would be some sort of discount for buying the 5-night package. So, somewhere less than $175. Maybe $125-150? Pure speculation.

Being there is my favorite Wilco album. I 'd love to see a set comprised of mostly that album. What do you think? Second show?

I'd be happy with any set though.

i obviously don't know, but i can't imagine them just playing each song in chronological order. although it would be cool to hear them just play "being there" in one set, or two maybe... one per disc.

Why?

The Riv is kind of run down, which isn't a big deal I guess, but I have never liked the mosh-pit type area up front. It can get almost dangerous down there. And if you don't get there early, finding a spot where you can actually see the stage is a challenge. It's really the only venue in this size, though, which is obviously what they were shooting for (maybe for a DVD?). Smaller than the Auditorium, Aragon or The Chicago Theatre, but bigger than the Vic, Metro and Park West. Not complaining, just not my favorite venue.

I thank Too Far Apart for sparking this.

Not just that. Remember Leo and his PKB request at Erin's house.

Plus, if you look at what they've been playing at soundchecks, the reappearance of It's Just That Simple, and the "request a song" thingy before the Pritzker pavillion show, you've got your "demand" :lol
