Hippycat
Does anyone know if the neighbourhood around the theatre is relatively safe? What's the chances of catching a taxi around there? Most likely I'll be getting a hotel in the Loop area, not exactly close, so I'll proabably train it up, but taxi it back.
PigSooie
man, i wish i could go to this! teh do it?
H.Stone
Great news, obviously. Almost calls for a VC commune of sorts.... you know, if we could all pretend we didn't have any responsibilities from 2/15-2/20 except to love Wilco.

Most likely I'll be getting a hotel in the Loop area, not exactly close, so I'll proabably train it up, but taxi it back. It's defintely relativly safe if you stay around the theatre, it does get a bit sketcky as you go south. North as well (but only because its very secluded, most everything in the area is shut down by 9). You really have no reason to be worried though the train is right by the venue and there will be lots of cabs by the venue. I would reccommend saving your money and taking a train back from the shows. The red line is a block from the venue and only costs 2 dollars. If your staying in the loop (i'd assume around grand or lake or even Jackson) its not going to be more then 30 min. on the train; a cab will take a few min. less at most. The red line runs very frequently.

That's the reason for thinking a taxi back might be easier than the train. But I just looked at the CTA schedule and the trains run pretty much all night, and like you said pretty frequently too. So that certainly is doable. Thanks again.
H.Stone
I'm going for a pair of 5 night ticket pack but have conflict with Fri...don't laugh...taking my niece to Spice Girls for 16th birthday! I'd love to give those tickets to my stepdaughter and her husband but wonder if tickets are for use by only one holder. Anyone have any ideas how the pack tickets work??? I can't imagine how they'd police something like that. But maybe my imagination sucks.

Stupid West Virginia.Reported.Yer too slow, I reported myself as soon as I saw that I had done that. nalafej
Things have changed for the better. Um, may not be the best example because I hate globalization, but a Borders opened a block away.
blindgonzo
teh do it? nope. unless a certain other event is planned around the same time, which seems VERY unlikely, then it is impossible for me to come. are you going? it would be so much fun!

Kinda. Like anywhere, you've gotta be smart and aware of your surroundings. Thank you very much. But I just looked at the CTA schedule and the trains run pretty much all night, and like you said pretty frequently too. So that certainly is doable. Thanks again.I had friends come into town for Bob Pollard a couple weeks ago and they stayed at the Days Inn at Clark & Diversey, which is right on the border of Lakeview and Lincoln Park (two fun, high-traffic, good, safe places to be.) That puts you a 10-15 min train ride south of the Riv. Just another option!
solace
honestly, if more than 200-300 people do all 5 nights, i'd be SHOCKED. the number of insane-o hardcore fans is always less than you think it is but yeah, of the rest, i'm sure a good % will do at least more than
JasonArtDude
This...is...awesome.... Is it to early to start asking if theres anybody planning on traveling to these shows who would want to share the cost of a room for a few nights? I live a few hours away and would love to catch a few of these shows, but would hate to make the drive a few times....if nothing else I'll probably hit two of them. Oh and does anybody know if the presale is online only or can we call in for tickets as I will be away from a computer at work at the time....
Degenerex
hey this may have already been answered, but I don't have time to read through 9 pages right now. Have either of these 2 questions been asked:1. How much will 5 day passes be?2. Is there a password for wednesday's presale? Sorry for the laziness, just had a long day. bourbonbreath
sweet Lord... this sounds incredible. Cannot wait to hear the Mermaid tracks again live... and this line ups take of Feed of Man. Dreamer In My Dreams and the Summerteeth tracks will be great. It says Wilco catalog... but i would love to hear them tear up We've Been Had. Does this mean that Leave Me Like You Found Me will finally be played?

Wilco Worshipper
Does this mean that Leave Me Like You Found Me will finally be played? Lord Byron
one word for finding a hotel "PRICELINE". I use it all the time. Just stayed in downtown Detroit for 2 nights at the Marriot for $80 dollars a night. I got a room at the Holiday Inn near the Loop for $80 dollars one time for a Cubs game. Just got on the train. Orbitz has rooms near the loop for under 100 bucks. I would definitely use priceline. I think i've used it about 20 times and i've never paid more than $80 bucks for a room and they are always nice rooms. worth a shot. So is the Riv still smoking? Last time I was there was years ago to see Ryan Adams and it was a smoking venue then. I thought it was a complete dump of a place. My friend was just there to see Phil and Friends and he liked it down on the floor. We sat up in the balcony and smoked joints all night long. Sat like right up near the top in front of the "projection room", not sure if that's what it was or not. I was kind of scared when I parked a few blocks from the Riv. Walked a couple blocks, pretty sure I was the only white person in that neighborhood, but you suck it up and just be cool. Don't look nervous. I wasn't too thrilled about the sound in the Riv, floor or balcony. We moved from the floor up to the balcony to chill.
explodo
So is the Riv still smoking? I'm am under the impression that nothing in Chicago will allow smoking after January 1st. Somebody else might know more about that. I was kind of scared when I parked a few blocks from the Riv. Walked a couple blocks, pretty sure I was the only white person in that neighborhood, but you suck it up and just be cool. And be sure to include this tale of valor in your memoir. Duck-Billed Catechist
Jeebus, people. There's probably a lot more crime aroung Wrigley Field: http://www.chicagocrime.org/streets/addison_st/1000w/ Than around the Riv: http://www.chicagocrime.org/streets/racine_ave/4700n/ Just be safe and smart and don't get drunk in some place you don't know. That's probably not a good idea anywhere. *Notes that it's not a fair comparison because there are more people going to Cubs games than concerts--doesn't care*
