JUDE
I agree. Nothing wrong at all with voicing your displeasure. I'd do the same. BUT....while it's not "inappropriate", I do think it's unreasonable. Put yourself in Wilco's shoes. What would you have done? How many opprotunities do you think Wilco would have to play SNL? Think of Charleston as taking one for the team. FYI I couldn't care less personally about a show in Charleston, I wasn't going. I find it unreasonable for people to take offense to other people voicing their displeasure with the timing, circumstances, etc. I see a lot of posts that are essentially STFU, It's SNL; they canceled my show so what right do you have to be upset, blah, blah, etc. That is unreasonable, damn it, I took a day off of work, pre-paid for a hotel room, etc, and now they cancelled essentially at the last minute, is not. smash_robust
bottom line is it is BS to cancel/reschedule a show 6 days prior to the date. Its just plain inconsiderate. People I am sure have travel plans, etc that have been made months in advance. plus the show is SOLD OUT. thats a pretty strong indication that the charleston area was pretty excited about the band coming to town and if i were in there shoes, which i am not, id feel responsible for essentially and albeit temporarily stating to people that SNL and a national TV audience (record sales) are more important that this one show. i am happy for wilco that they are getting this opportunity and it is hard to see bands make rational business decisions b/c essentially we would like to separate the business aspects from the fact the we love their music. but lets call a spade a spade here. theres no way they slap the ryman in the face like this. i hope their music gets all the attention it deserves but this in my opinion is a rather lame way to do it. i think they should have to play outdoors on the edge of a marsh with flies everywhere in august as a punishment. also canceling a friday show and replacing it with a thursday show sucks. i work for a living and dont have the luxury of riding around in a big fancy tour bus writing all kinds of fancy songs about your fancy conflicting emotions with fancy european guitars playing all kinds of fancy "riffs" with a bunch of fancy roadies and fancy hipster girls looking to have fancy emotionless fancy sex with unfancy me. god rock music has become so fancy...."alt-country"....whats the alternative? being fancy i guess. aricandover
the people of Charleston (and those out of towners w/tickets) should boycott the rescheduled show.
giraffo
i work for a living and dont have the luxury of riding around in a big fancy tour bus writing all kinds of fancy songs about your fancy conflicting emotions with fancy european guitars playing all kinds of fancy "riffs" with a bunch of fancy roadies and fancy hipster girls looking to have fancy emotionless fancy sex with unfancy me. god rock music has become so fancy...."alt-country"....whats the alternative? being fancy i guess.their emotionless sex with their fancy wives while hanging out with their fancy kids in their fancy VW cars in their fancy houses in their normal slightly upper middle class lives. I find it hilarious that you're deriving such animosity about the people behind Wilco through your frustration behind a canceled show. If you're going to call a spade a spade, call it a spade instead of bitching about clubs and hearts. the show was cancelled, it sucks, but it has nothing to do with luxury. sorry, in this world, that's how it works. they're going to take those better opportunities at your sake. as much as it sucks to hear, it's a better idea for a band to play offhand to a crowd of millions than to play to a focused group of a thousand/ or so. romer93
For those who live in Charleston or those who have a trip planned and can't get out of it I offer this alternative. A great band on the up and up will be playing at the Village Tavern in Mt. Pleasant. They're called Warm in the Wake. Here's their myspace page. If you like what you hear and are dying for live music, this might work for you. http://www.myspace.com/warminthewake Warm in the Wake February, 29 2008 at The Village Tavern Not Available , Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina Cost : w/ Hoots & Hellmouth and Giant Bear! P.S. I don't work for the band or this venue. I'm equally disapointed but just want a good night of tunes. August will rock. giraffo
and why boycott the show? that's counterproductive. it's like you're mad they rescheduled, so even though they have your money, you're not going to the show anyways. go and bitch a little, you know they can hear you on stage. if you're really hating the band (who probably had little to do with the decision overall) then direct your immature stupidity in the wrong direction in person, because I'm sure you have the balls to do that regardless. JerseyMike
you seriously think that people and bands get paid to be on SNL and late night TV??? laugh.gif They actually do get paid. Of course, its a very small amount compared their usual fee, its very comparable to a stipend to cover costs like hotels and meals, but they do get something.

nutop
I really don't mind that the show has been rescheduled. In many respects, I'm glad. However, I just wish they would have announced it sooner. I mean, the show is in less then 5 days and they finally changed it on their website. That's kind of weak on their part. JUDE
If you are speaking about contractual terms, I believe most tickets have something about a cancellation policy either printed on the back and/or in the fine print on the ticket purchasing website. I agree Wilco is fulfilling their obligations by offering an alternative remedy but people have a right to be upset by the short notice and their respective circumstances. Is this really that hard to comprehend?
