If we're talking recordings, and the beauty that can result from the limitations of a recording environment, then it's "I Only Have Eyes for You" by The Flamingos for me. The sounds in that recording are so hauntingly gorgeous.

I couldn't agree more. Very well said.

As far as pure sound:

the entirety of

Shellac - At Action Park

sounds freaking amazing. Like the band is there, in the room with you. Especially if you've heard the vinyl.

Also (again, sorry about the full-album instead of single tracks):

Paul Weller - Wild Wood

Is magnificent-sounding.

Marvin Gaye - Mercy Mercy Me / What's Going On (2 of the most beautiful tracks to ever grace a record)

Make it all of side 1 of the What's Going On LP!

There's a track on the deluxe anniversary edition of What's Going On that underscores just how exquisite this recording is, an alternate mix of "What's going On"... There is no lead vocal, and it starts simply with James Jamerson's bass and the sax riff by Eli Fountain (famously done as a warm-up which Marvin kept), and then slowly adds vibes, piano, Eddie "Bongo" Brown's bongos, strings, drums, and backing vocals. The melodies that interplay among the different instruments (mostly shielded by Marvin's brilliant vocal take) are on full display. It is absolutely stirring.
