????????? from Wilco plays with...

Recommended Posts

Okay so I thought this up while standing in the shower, it was too good not to post.

Pick your dream band to play a dream concert at any venue. Anyone, any song, anywhere. Here's the catch, one of the members of your band has to be from Wilco (hopefully this would be fulfilled without being a requirement, being that we are on the via chicago forums). It's more about the members of your band than the set list and venue, but I thought those would be fun to add on. There is no out of bounds, they can be recently deceased, say Hendrix on Guitar, or way dead: J.S. Bach on keyboard anyone?

I'll go first:

Dave Matthews: vocals/guitar

Duane Allman: lead guitar

Victor Wooten: bass

Glenn Kotche: drums

John Medeski: keyboard

special guest appearance by: John Coltrane

play live at the shorline amphitheatre (http://www.decheung.com/archives/shoreline.jpg) in California

I wouldn't really care what they played, my requests would be: All Along the Watchtower, Whipping Post, and Hummingbird

I'll play:

John Lennon: Vocals/Piano

Nels Cline: Guitar

Jack White: Bass

Greg Saunier: Drums

Some nice small club, haven't been to enough small clubs to say which. I'd request "Rock and Roll Music", "Crippled Inside", "Everbody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey", "A Day In The Life" (Jack could sing Paul's part), "Milking", "Holy Night Fever", "Let's Build A Home", and a million other songs.

Jeff Tweedy: Guitar, vocals

Britt Daniels: Guitar, vocals

Jim O'Rourke: noise, etc.

Pino Palladino: bass

Glenn Kotche: drums

playing at the Middle East Upstairs, Boston.

Glenn Kotche--Drums/Percussion

Elvin Jones--Drums

Hamid Drake--Drums/Percussion

Darin Gray--Bass

or alternately for rock stuff in a nice small sized club:

Jeff Tweedy--Vocals/Guitar

Brian Eno--Tape loops/Moog/Etc.

Paul McCartney--Bass

Glenn Kotche--Drums/Percussion

John McEntire--Drums/Percussion

Nels Cline--Guitar

Nick Drake: Guitar/Vocals

John Cale: Bass/Viola/Keyboards/Vocals

George Harrison: Guitar/Vocals

Maureen Tucker: Drums

Glenn Kotche: Percussion/Vibraphone

Jon Brion: Multi-instrumentalist

In terms of dream venue, my favorite place to see a show that's within driving distance to me is The Paramount Theatre in Ashland, Kentucky. Setlist? With these guys I doubt it'd matter Northern Sky, Sister Ray (with Lou Reed guesting), Stairway To Heaven (by Brion on piano), Here Comes The Sun, Pink Moon, Child's Christmas in Wales would all be wonderful to here.

Bob Dylan (from the 60's-80's) - vocal, harmonica, guitar

George Harrison - guitar, vocal

John Fishman - Percussion

Phil Lesh - Bass

Richard Manuel - anything else

anything these guys wanted to play I would make no requests.

My house, and yes you all could come, some may not have a place to see or sit but you could suck it up.

I'd pay top dollar for that show, though Nick Drake having anything to do with "Sister Ray" might stop my brain.

Not too many people around here talk about Darin or On Fillmore. Good to hear there is another fan here.

he probably listens to and enjoys Matthews' music, doesn't seem that odd to me.

But they don't like him. And college students do. So they'd rather kill themselves than see him perform. The logic is flawless, really.

Pretension is fun!

that is a sick lineup

and i totally understand why people dislike dave matthews, i used to be one of em.

but when i'm in the mood, i think dave can be alright. I picked him mainly because he's an energetic singer and i think he would work well with my lineup. He's great live too, obviously people are entitled to their own opinions

  • 1 year later...

My daughter had to make up a band and pick the players she wanted in it for her rock and roll history class. I was pretty proud of her choices:

Band name: Twisted Vacuum

Members:

Nels Cline - Lead Guitar

Joe Strummer - Vocals and Rhythm Guitar

Tal Wilkenson - Bass

Terry Bozzio - Drums

She considered Elton John for Keyboards but thought it would cause too much drama in the band. I think she has seen too much of my band drama over the years.

I'm going to go with actual living people, for no other reason than I'm delusional and willing to hope against all odds that this could actually happen.

Jeff Tweedy - gtr/voc.

Neil Finn - gtr/voc.

Neko Case - gtr/voc.

Nels cline - gtr

Glenn Kotche - drums

Geddy Lee - bass/some keys/vocals

Garth Hudson - organ

Andrew Bird - violin/voc.

Pat Sansone - keys/some gtr (since we already have a lot)

Sarah MacLachlan, Aimee Mann, Feist - backing vocals*

Total Pros - horns

*Yes, I know that they all play one or more instruments. But we already have a rather guitar-heavy lineup and I think they would make for a really interesting vocal mix together.
