watch me fall
I think the whole gas price thing is a ploy by the democrats to ensure that McCain doesn't get elected.Cool. I really hope it works.

Tweedling
Hmm. Maybe there could be some way to surreptitiously hook up all the treadmills, ellipticals and stairmasters at the nations many gyms to generate electricity. Then, you could get people to PAY you to let you sell electricity back to the power grid ...That would never work. Can you imgine the size of extension cord you would need? However, the "stray cat powered car".......now that has a chance.

VenusStopsTrain2
I paid $3.78 today but it cost more when I was in St Louis...they don't have ethanol in their gas? I buy 89 it's usually cheapest, except in StL
Duck-Billed Catechist
To quote Steve Alford, "You're from freaking Iowa." I'm not sure there's anywhere else in the country where 89 octane is cheaper than 87. Yay government subsidies yay.
VenusStopsTrain2
Sorry I'm from Illinois..our tax here is stupid crazy and so when I go to work (in Iowa) I get gas there...but Illinois in my area has 89 cheaper too...I'll have to start keeping track of where it's different. Do you have ethanol in your gas or not?

Duck-Billed Catechist
Do you have ethanol in your gas or not?Sure, all of it does, not just 89.
VenusStopsTrain2
Ok cause all our gas stations have a sticker that says that...so I was surprised when they didn't say that down in StL

jenbobblehead
All gas in this country has at least 10% ethanol. It is a mandate.

VenusStopsTrain2
Just reading the paper: The federal motor fuel tax is 18.4 cents p/g. In Iowa, the motor fuel tax is 20.7 cents p/g until July 1, when it will be increased to 21 cents p/g. The federal taxes on diesel are slightly higher. The fed govt charges 24.4 cents p/g and Illinois charges 21.5 cents p/g. Plus there is the motor fuel tax of 37.5 cents and the IL sales tax is 6.25% of the sale price of the product... Edie
Gas on the tollway (I90) was $4.02 yesterday, and $4.19 this morning. Jesus.
Clouds of Fluff
I've watched gas going up .03 to .05/day for the past week...it was up to $3.95 last night. I expect it to be over $4 today though, in time for summer travel/long weekend. It's really depressing.
lamradio
$3.69 - Greenville South Carolina... Yeah that's low compare to a lot of these posts, but I still need my lube when I go to the gas station.
austrya
It's $4.09 in the town I live in. If you go 30 miles south, it's $3.91. Luckily, I was already there to get groceries this afternoon and filled up the tank. Sometimes it sucks living in the rural midwest.

Three dollars and 63 cents
I just paid $3.75 in Harrisburg, PA, which was a 10 cent savings over the cheapest station in my parents' town 25 miles away. I'm glad I didn't fill up before I went up there today
