rockinrob
the title basically sums it up. I got to meet and talk to everyone in the band. They all signed my vinyl copy of SBS!!!!!! It is now my most prized possesion. Wilco has been around my life constantly for the last few years since I discovered them in 04, and this is just so cool! It was really great to say thanks and to get to meet them. Some girls took my picture with Jeff, so hopefully they will email it to me! I have already bragged to all of my friends, so I just thought it was time to brag to you guys too! Like my good friend Kelly said "You know Rob, in 20 years, this will be like meeting the Beatles!" fatheadfred
They are some cool cats. Nels will always jib jab with you. Pat too. The others are kind of hit and miss sometimes. The two times I saw Jeff after the show he seemed like he was on another planet. It is surreal that first time you walk up to them. Freaky.

nodep5
My first time was sneaking backstage in Atlanta on the AM Tour, backstage was up a spiral staircase at the Variety Playhouse. Well me and my buddy snuck up, and opened the door and their was Tweedy. On another planet is a good descriptor of how he can be. Well things ended abuptly when I said "hey Jeff I know one of Jay Farrar's brothers". God, now that was stupid and I was quickly escorted out of their. Live and Learn I guess. nodep5
That is hilarious. I bet Jeffrey gave you a stranger than normal look. I would have paid money to see that. He looked at me and my buddy exactly like you would expect him to. he was pissed we snuck up there and then that was the best I could come up with, Geez! I was so stupid that night, I was also wearing an Uncle Tupelo "still feel gone" tshirt and kept yelling from the crowd and pointing at my shirt, like I was the only one who knew he use to be in a band called Uncle Tupelo. I survived though, and my concert behavior has improved.
Party @ the Moontower
Cool meet! Dumb story about dumb people one night.. me and my pal lingered around the bus after meet and greet was over and he knocked on the window like a douche bag. Pat I think, looked out annoyed and ignored us. We walked by a few times as if to say we did not notice the bus nor care it was there. Coolest feeling ever was when we hit the highway after the show in Tulsa this year and their 2 busses met us on the highway. I waved like a nerd as they drove off into the night. To follow them would have been real nerdy. I'm only part nerd.

I found Pat to be a little stand-offish. I found Glen and Mikael to be very accomodating. Considering that they deal with that stuff all the time, they handle it extremely well. Tenskwatawa
I was the guy with the Incredible Hulk t-shirt. I've met my share of celeb types. Usually I'm able to keep my composure but I felt like a real geek talkin' to Jeff. They were all great. I didn't sleep much last night. Just wanted to get on the board to see if there was a taper. Great show!
Three dollars and 63 cents
I'm always so happy to see threads like this. I think it's great that the band almost always comes out to greet fans. It may delay them a half-hour or an hour, but it always means the world to us. I'm usually pretty shy, especially when I meet people I admire, but I've never felt nervous talking with these guys. They're so friendly, and when they thank you for coming to a show, they really mean it. How many bands are like that? Not enough, if you ask me.

TCP
That's so cool!I remember when I got to see Wilco... Nels, Pat, and John all walked past me at various times... I never worked up the courage to say hi and now, I regret it
FastWalker
that's so awesome! i met 1/2 of wilco after ACL last year, and they were all the nicest guys. my sister and i actually had the exact same day as john on the monday after ACL..saw him swimming at barton springs, having coffee at jo's, shopping on south congress, then having dinner with pat at guero's. i'm sure he thought we were stalking him, but we just happened to be going to all the same places at the same time (i swear!). it started to get awkward after awhile. but before it got awkward, we asked him to take a picture with my nephew and he did so happily. then he showed us pics of his little girl - such a cool and down-to-earth guy! ACL was a good time! Dylan was asleep though..but he was there. During Wilco I had to sit on the side because I bought 5 giant rain sticks to heavy to hold. Stoopid! Texas rocks though..Austin anyway.

you ever seen a ghost?
i've met Jeff twice. once before a show in 2004. i was there way early tooling around town and i saw him on the street, so i just walked up and shook his hand and said "thanks." in january of 2007, i met him after a solo show and got him to sign my ticket and took the pic that's in my signature with him. i asked him if "On & On & On" was going to be on the next record, becuase i heard heard it at the previous Wilco show and thought it was beautiful. he thanked me and said that it was a good chance. -justin
Sir Stewart
I have yet to meet a Wilco. Someday. Congrats!
fif1435
My wife and I met Jeff after the 2007 show in Indy. He was gracious enough to let someone take a picture of the three of us; twice actually, the first picture was messed up somehow. But I need a lot of work on my intelligent conversation abilities since I wasn't able to get out much more than "um, wow, uh....great, um, you guys are...um well, um awesome show...um, great, uh, geee...that was, um...uh, great..." I wish I could have eloquently told him how much I really appreciate the music, how much enjoyment Wilco has given me over the past few years and gotten out the sincere "thank you" that I wanted to express. Um, well, uh....gee...um, ya know?
lost highway
I did a double take when John walked by last time I was in Chicago, and had to jog half a block to catch up. (didn't want to regret that one). He tried not to laugh at me while I caught my breath and shook his hand. The guy is just as nice as he seems. I saw Nels do an in-store at a small record shop in CO. Talked to him for a little while. He seemed just as eager to talk to everyone about music, as they were to him. He started talking to this lady who seemed to know him from years back and he met her daughter for the first time. She was introduced as Naima and he said "Oh, like that beautiful John Coltrane song?" The little girl said yes. Precious.

barbkm
I've met Jeff 4 times. Each time, I come off like a babbeling idiot. #2 was before a show in NJ -- he was in his running shorts and t shirt. I asked him to sign my Down with Wilco CD (already signed by Scott McCaughey and Peter Buck), and Jeff said, "I'm glad you don't want a picture, cos I don't like my pictue taken in my shorts." (I don't know why, he's got nice calves.) I said, "Yeah, you look pretty skanky." He walked away in a mock huff saying, "Well, I was going to sign something." But he came back. #3 was in Ohio -- and I thought he white nudie suit was adorned with hummingbirds (I had bad seats.) He corrected me (cardinals) and gave that that What-are-you-smoking? look. In Philly, he said that pictures of him usually come out all blurry and dark, and I said that it must be his black aura. In Mass. I told him he sucked cos he didn't do my request. I guess if he does remember me, he does not like me. Hopefully, #5 will be Wednesday in Brooklyn. ANd I'll be nice this time! I've met Glenn twice. He's make-me-weak-in-the-knees gorgeous. I've I met Jeff and Glenn in a bar, and they were just regular joes, I'd go home with Glenn. But, they're not regualr joes and I'm not easy, so that'll never happen! entropy
Start with "Hey, it's me, that one that always says something inappropriate." Worst case scenario, he says "What?" and you can explain every time you've met before you acted like a self-proclaimed "babbling idiot." Boom. Icebreaker. Friends for life. Invite me to your joint birthday party.

Um, well, uh....gee...um, ya know? I can so relate to this. I have had several Wilco encounters (poor Wilco) and they are so sweet and regular, and funny. I once almost ran into Jeff Tweedy coming around a corner in Chicago and I smartly told him"You are Jeff Tweedy." I am sure that cleared up a lot of confusion for him.
